Australian Football: Arnold has faith in Socceroos

Socceroos boss Graham Arnold says there is enough quality in his side to get through the World Cup qualifying play-offs and book their spot in Qatar later this year.

Australia are priced at 500/1 to win the 2022 World Cup but first have to get through the play-offs after just missing out on the top two in the group stages.

Quality is there

The Socceroos must first face the UAE. If they can get through that game it is on to a showdown with Peru. Another victory there and Australia are heading to the World Cup.

They will have to do it without the influential Tom Rogic, who has pulled out for personal reasons, but apart from that Arnold has a strong squad. And he is backing them to get the job done.

"We've got some good individual quality and those boys have to go out there with a lot of belief that they can change the game with one action," Arnold told reporters. "We're excited. We're looking forward to it."

Rogic mystery

Rogic has given no reason as to why he cannot play in the play-offs. Even Arnold himself does not know, but says they respect the decision and will battle on regardless.

"He didn't want to so I've got to respect his privacy and those decisions, it's a personal decision that Tomi's made at the end of the day and he's done for a reason," Arnold added.

"It's OK, that's the way it is and we've just got to move on and get players ready and make sure that we keep that energy high."
