Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe refused to rule out the potential departure of Anthony Gordon before the end of the transfer window amid interest from Liverpool.
Newcastle have been walking a tightrope to comply with Financial Fair Play and the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules and the Magpies have been unable to splash the extortionate sums that were anticipated when PIF completed their takeover in October 2021.
Following a superb Premier League campaign last term in which Gordon registered 11 goals & 10 assists for Newcastle, the winger has garnered plenty of interest and Anfield has been mooted as a potential destination.

Despite being linked with a move away from Newcastle, the Magpies remain odds-on to retain Gordon come the end of the summer transfer window.
Though he admitted he cannot guarantee if Gordon or Newcastle's other stars would remain beyond the transfer deadline, Howe would loathe to lose one of his key players as the ex-Bournemouth boss strives to improve on a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League in the new season.
Gordon's outstanding form for Newcastle last season saw him earn a call-up for England's Euros squad, and at the age of 23 he has the capacity to elevate his game even further.
Newcastle's financial constraints could be a significant factor with regards to Gordon's future, however, with a move to Liverpool likely to be appealing to the winger who grew up supporting the Reds.
Once on the books of Liverpool as an academy player, it was at Everton where Gordon became a professional player, making his first team debut in 2017 and going on to make 78 senior appearances for the Toffees before being snapped up by Newcastle for a reported £40m in January 2023.
Any potential transfer away from Newcastle would require a substantial transfer fee, but Gordon is a player who could be a good fit within new Liverpool manager Arne Slot's tactical system, with the Dutchman renowned for his use of direct and speedy wingers.
