Our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt takes a closer look at Saturday night's IBO super-featherweight world title showdown between Anthony Cacace and Leigh Wood and explains where he feels the betting value can be found.
Anthony Cacace and Leigh Wood square off in Nottingham on Saturday night, in what should be a keenly-contested super-featherweight contest.
In a battle of former world champions, Cacace, the naturally bigger man, enters as the favourite to overcome Wood, who has been inactive since his stoppage win over Josh Warrington in October 2023.
Cacace, on the other hand, had an outstanding 2024; starting with a stoppage win over then-IBF champion Joe Cordina and ending with a comprehensive decision win over Leeds’ Warrington in September.
I’m expecting a good fight between two solid operators, but the timing of the fight certainly favours Cacace.
He has been the more active fighter in recent years, and is the more natural 130lb’er - he is long, carries solid power and is a good body puncher.
I expect Wood to carry his own power up from featherweight, but I see him struggling to get his shots off against the rangy Irishman.
The jab of Cacace will be a sizeable weapon from the outset and I can see it chipping away at Wood as the fight progresses, and securing a late stoppage win.
