bet365's boxing expert Rob Tebbutt previews this weekend's super-featherweight bout between IBF title holder Anthony Cacace and former world champion Josh Warrington, and tells us where he feels the betting value lies.
Anthony Cacace meets Josh Warrington in a non-title super-featherweight contest as part of the huge Riyadh Season London card on Saturday.
Cacace, who sprung a huge upset in dethroning previously unbeaten champion Joe Cordina back in May, was expecting to make the first defence of this title, but the IBF have refused to sanction the contest on the back of Warrington’s loss to Leigh Wood back in October 2023.
While undoubtedly a great featherweight in his day, 33-year-old Warrington finds himself up at super-featherweight on the back of just one win in his last five outings (1-3-1) with two losses coming via stoppage.
That is hardly world championship form and, up at a new weight, Warrington’s outright odds actually feel somewhat generous.
It’s a concern that despite how well Warrington boxed last time out against Leigh Wood, the first meaningful shot Wood landed saw Warrington dropped and stopped.
Long considered one of the sport’s most underrated punchers, Belfast-native Cacace will tower over Warrington on fight night and, with ‘The Leeds Warrior’ tending to favour a come-forward, aggressive style, I can see the Northern Irishman controlling the distance before walking Warrington into a big shot somewhere in the mid-to-late rounds.
