Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham can 'destroy' the narrative that exists around the club by winning the Europa League.
The Tottenham boss has fiercely defended the club's stature in recent weeks, as well as hitting back at suggestions that the Europa League isn't a major trophy, and recognises that ending a 17-year trophy drought would help change the conversations the club finds itself in.
Spurs are 90 minutes away from a European trophy and a place in next season's UEFA Champions League, and recognises the huge opportunity in front of them.
"It's a great opportunity because it destroys 50% of the narrative that exists around the club in terms of its stature at the moment," Postecoglou said to TNT Sports.
"This constant question, 'well until you actually win something, everything else is irrelevant, it doesn't matter how nice your stadium is, your training facilities... it doesn't matter if you've been runners-up in the league until you win something.'
"So once you do win, that's out of the equation. All that stuff around 'you haven't won anything' disappears in one fell swoop.
"It's not for the want of world class players or world class managers, it's something else that's going to change this club and I think this group of players has the opportunity do that.
"I guarantee every single one of them irrespective of what they do, they'll be remembered at this football club if they can bring this trophy home."
Tottenham have struggled enormously in the Premier League this season, but only as much as their opponents Manchester United. While neither side will come into the final in any sort of form, Spurs have beaten United in all three meetings this season, but Postecoglou has already put all that behind him.
"I just think finals are just unique beasts. Form going into it, head-to-head going into it means absolutely nothing. That's my experience, that's why you've seen so many finals, you can have your favourites, you can have your underdogs, it's all meaningless.
"You prepare that they're going to be at their best and we prepare to be at our best and we'll see who comes out on top."
