Our resident boxing insider Rob Tebbutt looks ahead to Mexican superstar Andy Cruz's return to action this weekend and tells us where the betting value lies in his lightweight showdown with Omar Salido Gamez.
Andy Cruz faces Omar Salido Gamez in Las Vegas on Saturday night, with the Cuban star looking to gate-crash the world scene at lightweight in 2025.
Cruz has barely put a foot wrong since turning professional in July 2023 and looked good in a stoppage win over Antonio Moran last time out in August.
The Olympic gold medallist has all of the skill and talent in the world and it’ll be interesting to see how he’s progressed behind-the-scenes when in with a rugged, game competitor in Gamez.
Gamez himself is coming off a career-best win over former super-featherweight title-holder Chris Colbert back in October, but this should be a bridge too far against a quality operator in Cruz and I expect him to really struggle with his speed and angles.
I expect Cruz to be too much for the limited Mexican and will be taking the ‘plus’ money on Andy Cruz to Win by KO/TKO at 7/4.
