Andrew Cain puts his British, Commonwealth and WBC 'International' silver bantamweight titles on the line against domestic rival Charlie Edwards on Saturday night, and our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt highlights where the betting value can be found.
Andrew Cain and Charlie Edwards meet on Saturday night in Liverpool, with Cain’s British and Commonwealth bantamweight titles at stake.
The match-up pits the fierce up-and-comer in Cain against the former world champion in Edwards in an interesting clash of styles.
Liverpool’s Cain is one of the more destructive bantamweights on the domestic scene, looking to come forward and lang big shots from the opening bell, while Edwards favours a more technical, outside-fighting approach.
If Edwards has had a weakness in the past, it has been against heavy-handed punchers, with his only official career loss coming at the hands of the powerful Filipino John Riel Casimero, so the former WBC flyweight champion will have to be wary against a natural puncher in Cain.
I think we will see a game of cat and mouse between the pair, with Edwards looking to utilise his movement and frustrate Cain on the back foot.
However, I do question whether Edwards will be able to stay out of harm’s way for the full twelve rounds and can see Cain catching up to him at some point in the second half of the fight.
While I feel a price of Edwards to win by decision is generous at 5/1, I feel that the freshness of Cain will ultimately prove to be the difference on the night and could see him winning by decision or late stoppage.
