Women's boxing pioneer Amanda Serrano will hang up her gloves after taking on Skye Falzon on 9 January.
Across 55 fights Serrano has become one of the decorated fighters in boxing history, holding world titles in no fewer than seven weight classes since making her professional bow in 2009.
On Wednesday the Puerto Rican announced in social media that she would retire from the sport after a farewell fight against Falzon at the Coliseo De Puerto Rico in San Juan.
The bout will see Serrano make the final defence of her WBA and WBO featherweight titles, just months after her long-time rival Katie Taylor similarly bowed out following a farewell fight in her home country.
"Boxing has given me everything. It’s taken me around the world, allowed me to chase dreams I once thought were impossible, and given me the opportunity to inspire the next generation of fighters." Serrano wrote on X.
She continued: "I couldn’t imagine a more meaningful place to say goodbye than in front of my people, on my island.
"I’m not done just yet. We have one more night of history to make together."
The final fight of her professional career will also afford Serrano the opportunity to make history as she attempts to become the fighter with the most knockouts in women's boxing history.
A second-round stoppage of Cheyenne Hanson in May saw her draw level with the legendary Christy Martin with 32 career wins inside the distance.
Serrano is best known for her trilogy of fights with Taylor between 2022 and 2025.
In their meeting in April 2022 the pair became the first women ever to headline a boxing event at Madison Square Garden, and put they put on an instant classic worthy of the famous venue.
Though Taylor would ultimately emerge victorious in all three of their meetings, all three fights were competitive from bell to bell, with the second fight in particular drawing a significant amount of controversy with many observers believing Serrano deserved the decision.
In addition to her various accolades inside the boxing ring Serrano also holds an undefeated record across three fights in mixed martial arts and has competed in submission grappling.
