Harness Racing: Alchin salutes Tough Love

Trainer-driver Rickie Alchin described Tough Love as a ‘topline filly’ after she picked up the eighth win of her career on Saturday night.

Alchin is enjoying his best ever start to a season and kept the good times rolling as Tough Love took out the Group 1 New South Wales Trotters Oaks.

More to come from Tough Love

It was his third Group 1 win in as many months and he had nothing but praise for his charge, who has now taken her earnings to $65,000 from her 14 starts.

And Alchin believes there is even more to come from Tough Love.

“She is a topline filly that is for sure,” said Alchin. “She was fully extended on Saturday night, falling in to win by a head after having a big lead.

“But I do not feel that leading on her is the best way to drive her. When she can get into races run with a more genuine tempo, I am sure we will see an even better horse.”

Interstate treble

It turned out to be a fine night for Alchin, who ended up landing an interstate treble. Crunch Time picked up a comfortable win at Albion Park, while Captain Crusader won the APG Gold Bullion for four-year-olds at Menangle.

“It was satisfying to land an interstate treble as that was a first for our stable,” Alchin added.

“Nights like that do not just happen. My team works hard to achieve results and I am fortunate to have people around me that put in the hard yards.”
