Just weeks after being relieved of his duties at Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou has already been approached by Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ahli.

David Ornstein of The Athletic took to ‘X’ to exclusively break the news.

Al Ahli make contact with Ange Postecoglou about becoming head coach, if Matthias Jaissle exits.

“Former Tottenham Hotspur boss among candidates being considered in event of AlAhli managerial change.”

A turbulent spell in north London saw the Australian sacked just weeks after winning the club’s first trophy in 17 years, defeating Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao to claim the Europa League.

While many believed the European triumph was simply papering over cracks after a severely underwhelming 17th placed finish in the Premier League, others believed that the delivery of silverware should of bought Postecoglou some time.

Nonetheless, the manager was relieved of his duties and Spurs haven’t wasted time in hiring his successor. Former Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been selected as the man to lead the club forward, impressing during his seven year spell for the Bees.

As for Postecoglou, his time out of the game may not be as long as first anticipated, with Al Ahli keen on the manager, should current manager Matthias Jaissle depart.

Home to the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, Ivan Toney, Frank Kessie and Edouard Mendy, the Saudi club has become an attractive prospect for players in recent years, and could be taken to new heights if the appointment of Postecoglou materialises.

Aged 37, Jaissle led Al Ahli to a fifth placed league finish in the 2024/25 term, with reports suggesting his job could be at risk.

The former Salzburg boss has recorded an impressive 62.35% win percentage, but that may not be enough to keep him in the job with Postecoglou eyed as a potential successor, alongside former Barcelona player and manager Xavi.
