We analyse the credentials and statistics of domestic super-lightweight rivals Adam Azim and Ohara Davies as the two get set to contest an intriguing contest at the top of BOXXER's upcoming fight card on Saturday 19th October.
After swerving a fight against Dalton Smith, the next step in Adam Azim’s career had to be a positive one.
Ohara Davies was picked as the best option for Azim this Saturday night and despite one embarrassing blip in January ‘Two Tanks’ may still have the type of artillery to keep Azim on his toes.
But who will prevail?
Let’s have a look at the tale of the tape…

The rise of Adam Azim continues this weekend in a fight which looks like clever matchmaking.
Getting names on your record is paramount as you make your ascent to world title level.
Ohara Davies has been in the ring with Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall - albeit several years ago - but an impressive win over the 2024 version of Davies will provide a barometer for Azim’s future.
Davies still carries fight-changing power and that attribute is normally the last to go in a fighter.
Azim does have a tendency to be reckless himself but if he can pick the Londoner apart by utilising his speed and forcing his opponent into mistakes then a stoppage is on the cards.
In 2017, Josh Taylor stopped Davies in seven rounds and a year later Catterall won fairly comfortably on points.
Azim must look to match the domination of both. The pressure he carries into every fight is such that a lacklustre simply display won’t do.
In 2025, the 22-year-old will aim for a world title shot which means someone like Davies - and the stage of career he is at - should be dealt with in emphatic fashion.
Strengths: | Weaknesses: |
Speed | Slightly reckless |
Timing | Repetitive patterns |
Counter-punching | Vulnerable to left hooks |
Reflexes | Doesn't plant his feet enough |
Just when Ohara Davies looked to have gained some momentum in his career, his boxing world came crashing down at the hands of a 41-year-old Colombian in January.
Having lost to Jack Catterall in 2018 Davies put together a seven-fight winning streak which culminated in a promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions and a potential world title shot.
Before facing Josh Taylor in 2017 Davies had built up a reputation and momentum but ran into a far superior fighter.
Now he’s facing another prodigious talent in Adam Azim and the unbeaten contender’s greatest attribute - speed - is a potential nightmare for Davies.
One critical question, however, is what does the 32-year-old have left in the tank?
The big punching Barroso capitalised on the first mistakes Davies made. He has come up with various excuses since then but jumping straight back into a fight against a hotly tipped future world champion and one who possesses lighting speed and swift counter punching is an odd choice.
Perhaps, Davies knows himself the end is nigh and it’s come down to making as much money as possible before he hangs up the gloves.
One thing is for sure, if he repeats the mistakes he has made in past fights and machismo gets the better of him then he will be punished and this fight will not go the distance.
Strengths: | Weaknesses: |
Power | Too square on |
Body shots | Unpredictable |
Long reach | Makes basic mistakes |
Unorthodox | Reckless |
