After stepping in at short notice to fight Eliot Chavez on Saturday 7th June, Adam Azim has claimed he would be ready to 'fight Haney next week'.
Adam Azim has stepped in at short notice to fight Mexico’s Eliot Chavez on Saturday 7th June, off the back of a TKO victory against Sergey Lipinets on 1st February.
Despite stepping in late, Azim should have no problems getting past the Mexican, and will likely use this bout as a stepping stone for further challenges.
While an element of risk exists, when speaking to Sky Sports, Azim ensured that he is ready to take on Chavez.
"I was always in the gym anyway. A couple of rounds of sparring here and there, so back here now.
"In boxing anything can happen [but] if you're always in good shape, you can always go into a fight.
"It's just another day in the office."
While a staggered approach leading up to huge fight is often wise, Azim appears ready to grasp any opportunity that falls his way.
I would fight Haney next week.
- Adam Azim, Sky Sports
"I just feel he's more moving around and doesn't want to initiate attacks. He is a top-level fighter but I don't think he's the same fighter that he was before.
"If he's running on the backfoot, throwing one jab every two rounds, why not?"
"For me I can fight front foot and back foot. Haney, I think he's got enough power just to keep someone off, but I don't think he has that one-punch power.
"But I think if I was going to fight him I think I'd beat him with speed."
Devin Haney has come under a substantial amount of criticism in the last month or so, defeating Jose Ramirez via unanimous decision but failing to impress at Times Square.
While a rematch with Ryan Garcia hasn’t been ruled out, Garcia’s defeat to Rolando Romero puts it in doubt, meaning Haney may be looking at the likes of Azim as a potential candidate to fight next.
