Aaron Ramsdale 12/1 to start England's first Euros game against Serbia

Aaron Ramsdale was back on the bench for Arsenal against Wolves and the Gunners stopper is a 12/1 shot to start England’s first Euros game against Serbia.

The draw for Euro 2024 pitted England against Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia and with just over six months until the start of the tournament, time is running out for Ramsdale to sufficiently impress boss Gareth Southgate.

After enjoying a strong maiden campaign at the Emirates, Ramsdale was displaced by summer signing David Raya, and his only Premier League appearance since the start of September was against Brentford where Raya was ineligible.

Ramsdale did start England’s friendly win over Scotland with Jordan Pickford – who’s 1/8 to start England’s first game – on the bench, so it’s not as if Ramsdale isn’t on Southgate’s radar, but his lack of playing time while Pickford continues to impress for club and country is going to be a significant hurdle in his hopes of appearing for the Three Lions in Germany.

bet365’s Steve Freeth said: “Ramsdale will be used to warming the bench for England, but he’s now also collecting splinters at club level and the lack of game time will be a concern as he looks to impress Gareth Southgate in the lead up to Euro 2024.

“As it stands, the only time he could feature would be if Pickford picked up an injury, and even then, Southgate could go for a regular starter in the shape of Johnstone or Pope.”

Though Pickford looks set in stone as England’s number one, the other two goalkeeping spots look up for grabs. Nick Pope was omitted from Southgate’s most recent England squad, with the in-form Sam Johnstone given the nod.

Johnstone tops the Premier League clean sheets table alongside Pope and Andre Onana and is in to 4/7 to make the Euros squad, while Pope is out to Evs.

Though it’s tough to see Ramsdale ousting Pickford in the next few months, the Arsenal man remains the second shortest priced goalkeeper at 1/4 to make the squad.

His lack of game time at the Emirates, however, may see Ramsdale angle for a move away in January.

Though the odds of 1/4 for Ramsdale to still be an Arsenal player after the January transfer window suggest Arsenal will be unwilling to part with their number two – or that Ramsdale will be unwilling to leave – to boyhood West Brom fan is 10/1 to join Wolves in January.

It’s 12/1 that Ramsdale returns to Sheffield United, and 20/1 that Ramsdale joins Manchester United. An unlikely prospect, but with Andre Onana set to miss six weeks for the Africa Cup of Nations, United may look for a stronger deputy.
