NBA - US Sports: 2k23 Summer League day 10 preview

The penultimate day of the NBA 2k23 Summer League features nine games, as over half of the league wraps up their time in Las Vegas.

With pre-season training camps still over two months away, this weekend is the last chance to catch any NBA action before the autumn, so it's a night to savour for basketball fans.

The Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics and LA Lakers are all in action on Saturday evenun, as are some of the standout talents from this year's event.

Nets prepare for Celtics rematch

The Brooklyn Nets face a rematch with the Boston Celtics, the side who swept them in the first round of last season's playoffs.

Things looked shaky for the Nets in the aftermath, with their stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving both expressing their desire to be traded this summer.

However, the latest reports suggest that Brooklyn will go again with this team, simply because their asking price for Durant isn’t being met.

The Nets have already been adding players to fit around the pair like they aim to contend again, picking up Royce O'Neale and T.J. Warren in the off-season. While this could be a negotiation tactic, it seems like Durant isn't moving anytime soon.

Brooklyn can also boast one of the standout performers of the last nine days, with Cam Thomas following up last year's Summer League MVP win with a string of great displays.

He dropped 26 points in Friday's win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, putting himself in the mix to win the top award again.

The Celtics have had their own highs at this tournament, winning three of their four games and narrowly missing out on the Championship Game.

Things are looking good for Boston at the minute, who could use one or two Summer League prospects to fill out what already looks like a stacked roster for next season.

With Thomas in stellar form, Brooklyn head into their final game in Vegas priced at 5/7 on the Money Line to win the game, while the Celtics are 6/5 for a fourth win in five.

Will Murray feature for the Kings?

Keegan Murray has been the breakout star of Summer League, offering fresh hope to the Sacramento Kings. However, it remains to be seen if the Kings give Murray one final runout in Vegas.

Many of the top picks have been given time off in Vegas, with top-pick Paolo Banchero featuring in just two games for the Orlando Magic.

Murray's displays could see him rested for Saturday's meeting with the Houston Rockets, although he is also an MVP contender.

The Rockets, who boast two impressive 2022 draft picks in Jabari Smith Jr and Tari Eason - the pair combined for 36 points in their defeat to Portland in their last game - would be a good test for Murray and the Kings.

Both Smith Jr and Murray should feature in the Rookie of the Year race, but the pair remain outsiders. The Rockets' forward is 11/2 to be named next season's top rookie, while Murray is 17/2.

Two other sides who featured high in last month's draft also meet on Saturday, but both the Magic and the Detroit Pistons will be without their main 2022 pick for their final game.

Etienne flying for Hawks

If there was an undrafted Summer League MVP award, it would likely go to the Atlanta Hawks' Tyson Etienne.

The former Wichita State guard scored 21 points off the bench in their win over the San Antonio Spurs, scoring the winning bucket before preventing the Spurs from responding.

Etienne is likely to feature in the Hawks' Vegas finale against the Cleveland Cavaliers. A string of good Summer League displays has put Etienne in the frame for a roster spot, while he's already earned a place at training camp.

The Hawks head into Saturday's game at 6/5 on the Money Line, with the Cavs 5/7 and Cleveland has put together a solid backcourt in Vegas, with both Ochai Agbaji and RJ Nembhard impressing.

The Miami Heat take on the LA Clippers on Saturday, two sides who will have title ambitions this season. The pair have quite top-heavy rosters, so expect them to test out a couple of prospects who could feature in their last few spots.

Elsewhere on Saturday, the Chicago Bulls meet the Philadelphia 76ers, the Charlotte Hornets face the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Memphis Grizzlies are up against the San Antonio Spurs and the LA Lakers take on the Dallas Mavericks.
