Summer Transfer Window 2025: Dates, Registration Period, Club World Cup impact

The Premier League have announced it will have two separate transfer windows this summer to accommodate the teams participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Following the amendments, we've outlined all of the key details to the upcoming summer transfer window below.

Why are there two summer transfer windows in 2025?

In light of the revamped and expanded FIFA Club World Cup which takes place in June, the Premier League will open the window early in order to enable participating clubs to officially register players in time for the tournament.

That decision has been influenced by FIFA's approval of an additional window from 1st-10th June, with the Premier League opting to adopt the same window.

However, the world governing body FIFA only permits the transfer window in any individual country to be open for 16 weeks in any calendar year, and so to align the closure of the window with the rest of Europe's big leagues, the Premier League has decided to implement a partial closure in June.

2025 Summer transfer window dates

Clubs will have a 10-day period prior to the FIFA Club World Cup in which they can register players.

The window will then shut for six days, before reopening for the remainder of the summer until the final deadline at the start of September.

  • Sunday 1st June - Tuesday 10th June
  • Monday 16th June - Monday 1st September

Can players signed in the window before the Club World Cup play in the competition?

Yes, the decision to hold two separate transfer windows has been finalised to ensure that teams participating in the FIFA Club World Cup will be able to sign players prior to the tournament commencing.

The remodelled 32-team Club World Cup commences on 14 June, four days after the closure of the first transfer window.

An issue competing teams face, which in this case is Manchester City and Chelsea, is that the initial transfer window runs through a congested period of international fixtures, most notably the UEFA Nations League semi-finals and several important World Cup qualifiers.

FIFA has also permitted competing clubs to register players from 27 June-3 July for the knockout stage of the competition.
