bet365's Steve Freeth takes a look back at the weekend when a number of favourites landed the odds.
After a couple of profitable weeks, the punters have hit back in style with a favourite-fest over the weekend aided by some late goals.
2/5 Chelsea got things started beating Everton 1-0; 4/5 Brighton dramatically won from behind with a 92nd-minute winner, as did 8/13 Fulham against already-relegated Southampton, while 1/5 Newcastle and 8/15 Wolves both trounced sides also heading to the second tier on Saturday - the latter two both being paid out inside the hour as part of our 2 Goals Ahead Early Payout offer.
1/5 Liverpool then followed on Sunday to seal seal the Premier League title against Spurs. Arne Slot’s side are 15/8 to retain their crown next season with Manchester City at 9/4 and Arsenal at 5/2.
Admittedly, we did benefit from a Super Boosted Cole Palmer failing to have a shot on target at Stamford Bridge, as well as both FA Cup semi-finals and Manchester United drawing late at Bournemouth, but we had a stinker in Europe.
The Copa del Rey final was brutal, so much so it’s the most we’ve lost on Bet Builders since the 2022 World Cup final! 15 shots on target, 15 corners, six bookings and four goals in normal time was enough to do the damage with all the big guns bar Rodrygo having shots on target, so step forward his half-time replacement, Kylian Mbappe, to not only hit the target but also to score as punters profited from our Sub On Play On concession.
Germany was also full of favourites obliging on Saturday - 1/4 Bayern Munich, 1/2 Bayer Leverkusen, 5/6 Borussia Dortmund, Evs Eintracht Frankfurt and 6/4 Holstein Kiel – but over in Serie A, Roma’s win at Inter on Sunday helped enormously.
Elsewhere, an early Conor Benn win would’ve been a disaster with all the early rounds, both singularly and coupled, backed off the boards, but as it turned out this was a winner for us in what was a real tear-up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
