The action keeps on coming at the World Cup in Qatar and Wednesday sees four more games, with Spain, Germany and Belgium all in action.

Group E and Group F are on the agenda and with subplots aplenty, it promises to be another fine day of football.

Runners-up happy to go under the radar

Despite going all the way to the final of the last World Cup in Russia, little has been made of Croatia's chances going into this year's tournament.

Croatia have an experienced squad heading to Qatar, with Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric once again set to play a key role.

The Croats take on a Morocco side that have only lost one of their last eight games and come into the World Cup on the back of a 3-0 victory over Georgia in their last outing.

Croatia themselves are in impressive form, winning all of their last five games, including victories over Denmark and reigning world champions France.

Germany out for redemption

What: Germany v Japan, Group E

After a disastrous World Cup four years ago in Russia, Germany will be driven to succeed in Qatar as they face Japan in their Group E opener.

Germany finished rock bottom of their group at the last World Cup in 2018 and have since turned to former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick to lead the side.

In the 'Group of Death' alongside fellow European heavyweights Spain, Germany can't afford many, if any, mistakes this time around.

Japan have reached the knockout stages of three previous World Cups and often cause one or two upsets at the tournament.

Having kept one clean sheet in their last eight games, Germany's defence is there to be got at and Japan will be confident they can cause Die Mannschaft some problems.

Luis Enrique's Spain head to the World Cup in good form with just a single defeat in their last 11 games.

La Roja reached the semi-finals of the European Championships last summer and they are +1000 to Win Outright and repeat their success of 2010. 

Considering the strength of Group E, Spain will be looking to avoid a banana skin when they take on Costa Rica in their opening game of the tournament.

The Costa Ricans also head into the World Cup in positive form, with just one defeat in their last 13 games.

However, the level of opposition the Central American country have faced does not really compare to the strength they will face in Spain.

This should be three points for La Roja but don't expect the goals to be flying in at Al Thumama Stadium.

Four of Spain's last six games have had under 2.5 goals in them, with La Roja struggling to put teams away.

Belgium eager to make statement

Much has been made about Belgium's 'Golden Generation' ahead of the World Cup and on Wednesday, the Red Devils have a chance to put a marker down against Canada.

Many of the Belgian stars are approaching the latter stages of their career and this World Cup might be their last chance to get their hands on major silverware.

In a group alongside Croatia and Morocco, Belgium are expected to progress through to the knockout rounds and possibly again to the latter stages of the competition.

Belgium finished third at the last World Cup in 2018 and are once again dark horses for the tournament this time around.

Wednesday's opponents Canada are preparing for just their second World Cup finals, having only previously made the competition back in 1986 in Mexico.

Much will rest on the shoulders of Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, who is by far the biggest name in the Canada squad.

Lille striker Jonathan David, who has been linked with moves to the Premier League, will also have to have strong game if Canada are to cause an upset against the Belgians.
