Wednesday Night Hockey Preview: Four games on tap

As the NHL heads to Sweden this weekend, the mid-week slate is a bit lighter than usual.

We're still being treated to two divisional games, with the Philadelphia Flyers heading to Carolina to take on Sebastian Aho and the Hurricanes, then Connor McDavid and his new coach welcoming the Seattle Kraken to Rogers Place.

The nightcap will feature the upstart Anaheim Ducks taking a trip to Colorado to face Nathan MacKinnon and the Avalanche, while the red-hot Vancouver Canucks host the struggling New York Islanders.

Let's take a look at each game and make some picks!

Philadelphia Flyers @ Carolina Hurricanes Odds:

Flyers Moneyline +215

Hurricanes Moneyline -260

Total O/U 6

Philadelphia Flyers @ Carolina Hurricanes Information:

  • Where is Flyers @ Hurricanes? PNC Arena, Raleigh, NC
  • When is Flyers @ Hurricanes? 7:30 PM, EST, Wednesday, November 15
  • Where can I watch Flyers @ Hurricanes? Sportnet+

Philadelphia Flyers @ Carolina Hurricanes Prediction:

The Flyers come into Carolina looking to cap off a perfect 3-game road trip, having already won games in Anaheim and Los Angeles. They currently sit at 7-7-1. The Hurricanes are coming off an impressive 4-0 win in Tampa Bay. These teams met up earlier this year, with Carolina winning 3-2 in Philadelphia.

Carolina have yet to drop a game on home ice this season, with a perfect 4-0-0 record, so look for Carolina to continue their home ice success against an improving, but still rebuilding Flyers team.

The under is also a strong play, as the Flyers have struggled to score this year, ranking 18th in the NHL in goals with the league’s 31st ranked power play. Both teams are in the top-5 in limiting opposing team’s shots on goals this season.

Picks:

Moneyline: Hurricanes 3-Way (-150)

Over/Under: Under 6 Goals (+100)

Seattle Kraken @ Edmonton Oilers Odds:

Oilers Moneyline -180

Kraken Moneyline +160

Total O/U 6.5

Seattle Kraken @ Edmonton Oilers Information:

  • Where is Kraken @ Oilers? Rogers Place, Edmonton, AB
  • When is Kraken @ Oilers? 8:30 PM, EST, Wednesday, November 15th
  • Where can I watch Kraken @ Oilers? Sportsnet, Sportsnet 360

Seattle Kraken @ Edmonton Oilers Prediction:

The slumping Seattle Kraken head to Edmonton to face the Oilers for the second time in five days.

The Oilers thumped the Kraken 4-1 off the back of a Zach Hyman hat-trick last Saturday. This win was not enough to save Jay Woodcroft’s job however, as the Oilers fired him and replaced him with Connor McDavid’s Junior coach Kris Knoblauch. The Knoblauch era got off to a successful start on Monday as the Oilers beat the Islanders 4-1 on home ice. Seattle backed up their 4-1 loss to the Oilers with a 5-1 loss on home ice to the Avalanche.

While it is no secret the Oilers have struggled out of the gate, they seem to be finding their footing, winning back-to-back games, including their new coaches debut. This team had too much talent to continue to struggle like they did, and this seems like a ripe spot for a big- time Oilers win over a struggling opponent who they are fresh off handily beating.

The total is also interesting, as both teams are in the bottom third of goals scored and top third in goals allowed. This would lead to the Under being the play, as while the Oilers have started to pick up their goal-scoring, Seattle continues to struggle to put the puck in the net - making it the value bet given you can get it at plus money.

Picks:

Puckline: Edmonton -1.5 (+135)

Over/Under: Under 6.5 (+105)

Anaheim Ducks @ Colorado Avalanche Odds:

Ducks Moneyline +240

Avalanche Moneyline -300

Total O/U 6.5

Anaheim Ducks @ Colorado Avalanche Information:

  • Where is Ducks @ Avalanche? Ball Arena, Denver, CO
  • When is Ducks @ Avalanche? 9:00 PM, EST, Wednesday, November 15th
  • Where can I watch Ducks @ Avalanche? Sportsnet+

Anaheim Ducks @ Colorado Avalanche Prediction:

The Ducks head to Colorado on the second night of a back to back-to-face the Avalanche. Anaheim have been one of the surprise teams early in the season, as young guns like Mason McTavish and Leo Carlsson have helped the rebuilding Ducks to an 8-6-0 start. The Avalanche come in having beat the Kraken 5-1 on Monday, which snapped a slide of back-to-back losses, and 3 of their last 4.

The Ducks have surprisingly been better on the road than at home, with a 4-2-0 record away from Anaheim, but on the second night of a back-to-back against a rested Colorado team this is a tough spot for them. Look for the fresher Avalanche team to continue righting the ship with a regulation victory.

Pick:

Moneyline: Avalanche 3-way (-175)

New York Islanders @ Vancouver Canucks Odds:

Islanders Moneyline +145

Canucks Moneyline -165

Total O/U 6

New York Islanders @ Vancouver Canucks Information:

  • Where is Islanders @ Canucks? Rogers Arena, Vancouver BC.
  • When is Islanders @ Canucks? 9:00 PM, EST, Wednesday, November 15th
  • Where can I watch Islanders @ Canucks? Sportsnet Pacific

New York Islanders @ Vancouver Canucks Prediction:

The Islanders head into Vancouver as losers of five-straight. This team struggles to score goals, ranking 30th in the league in goals for. This is a team that has not scored more than three goals since October 24th. Contrast this with the Canucks, who have been the NHL’s highest-scoring team so far this season, averaging 4.4 goals per game.

On paper this game looks like a massive mismatch, but the Islanders do have Ilya Sorokin in net. The Russian net minder has been one of the NHL’s best goalies over the last few seasons, finishing as runner-up in last year’s Vezina voting. The Islanders only hope in this game is a masterclass from their star net minder, but given the offensive prowess of the Canucks, it is unlikely that even will be enough.

The under is a solid play as well, the Canucks will get a few past Sorokin, but the Islanders likely will not contribute much to the total.

Picks:

Moneyline: Canucks 3-way (+100)

Over/Under: Under 6 (+100)
