We only have one nationally televised game for this week’s edition of Wednesday Night Hockey, and it has all the makings of being an outstanding hockey game.
Vegas is in Edmonton to take on the Oilers in what could be a potential first round playoff preview between two powerhouse teams in the Pacific Division.
The most notable news to come from this game is that Connor McDavid will not be in the Oilers lineup on Wednesday night which is a huge loss.
Since January 1st, Connor McDavid leads the NHL in scoring with 82 points in 42 games. That’s seven more points than the next closest player. He is obviously the driving force of the Edmonton Oilers.
With McDavid out of the lineup, look for Evan Bouchard to play a bigger role on the Oilers power play. The power play is going to run through him at the top of the point. That’s going to lead to more shots and one timers to create offence.
Bouchard is second on the Oilers in shots on goal over the last four games, averaging three per game. McDavid is first with 23 in four games. Where are those shots going to be distributed? I think a lot of them are going to go to Bouchard.
Vegas has won three of their last four games against the Oilers, as well as taking the series in the playoffs last season, so its safe to say the Knights have had the Oilers’ number of late.
This should be an evenly played game between two teams with Stanley Cup aspirations. Because of that and the injuries, I think this will be a low scoring affair.
Over/Under: Under 6.5 (-135)
