Loopy Godinez: Fighter Profile

Lupita "Loopy" Godinez is a Mexican-Canadian female mixed martial artist who currently competes in the Strawweight division of the UFC.

The 30-year-old has won three fights in a row to push herself up the rankings, and if she can maintain that form, she will soon find herself inside the top 10 in her division.

While some fighters enjoy a long break in between fights, Godinez has been busy in recent months, and she has no plans of slowing down.

She began her MMA career in 2016 as an amateur and turned professional after winning the COGA Strawweight Championship.

Her professional career could not have started any better as she won five consecutive fights, earning her an opportunity with the UFC in April 2021.

She was unable to win on the undercard of UFC on ESPN: Whittaker vs. Gastelum, losing a decision to Jessica Penne.

A first defeat only motivated her, though, and she returned six months later on the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Dern vs. Rodriguez to beat Silvana Gome Juarez by submission.

Shortly after winning her first UFC fight, Godinez decided to jump back in the octagon at less than two weeks' notice.

Due to the short notice, she made her flyweight debut at UFC Fight Night: Ladd vs. Dumont, but lost a decision to Luana Carolina.

Just over a month after that defeat, she fought at strawweight again, beating Loma Lookboonmee on points on the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Vieira vs. Tate.

She took about six months off after that and returned to the octagon to beat Ariane Carnelossi at UFC 274 on May 7, 2022, via unanimous decision.

Godinez has fought three times so far in 2023: She beat Cynthia Calvillo on April 8 via split decision, beat Emily Ducote on April 29 via unanimous decision, and beat Elise Reed on Sept. 16 via submission with a rear-naked choke, which earned her the Performance of the Night award.
