These two Original Six teams first met in the postseason in 1933, where the Maple Leafs won in five games - Game 5 ended 1-0 in favor of Toronto after six overtime periods.
The teams met in the 1935 semifinals, the 1936 quarterfinals, and the 1938 semifinals, and the Leafs won all three series.
The Bruins won their first-ever series against the Maple Leafs in the first and only meeting between the two teams in the 1939 Stanley Cup Finals, which was decades before the Eastern and Western Conferences were established. Boston took the series 4-1.
Boston won another series - the 1941 semifinals - against the Leafs in seven games. Then, the Leafs rattled off four straight series wins over the Bruins between 1948 and 1959.
