Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the home to, perhaps unsurprisingly, London based football club Tottenham Hotspur.
Alongside football, the stadium also hosts NFL matches, rugby matches, music concerts and more.
The stadium was officially opened on 3rd April 2019 after three years of construction, when South Korean star Son Heung-Min scored the first ever goal at the stadium in a 2-0 win over London rivals Crystal Palace.
Before this, a ‘Fan Familiarisation’ event took place, with the first fixture played between Tottenham and Southampton U18’s, which was attended by nearly 29,000 spectators.
The entire building project cost an estimated £1bn to complete.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has a seating capacity of 62,850, which is the third largest in England and the largest club stadium in London.
The original home of Tottenham Hotspur was White Hart Lane. Despite its heritage, White Hart Lane began to fall behind the standard of Tottenham’s Premier League rivals as the years progressed, prompting calls from supporters to build a new home for the club.
Spurs played at White Hart Lane from 4th September 1899 to 14th May 2017 when the stadium was demolished to make way for the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The last match at the Lane was a 2-1 victory over Manchester United on 14th May 2017, demolition work began the very next day.
The record attendance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was against Tottenham’s fierce North London rivals Arsenal on 12th May 2022 when 62,027 fans packed in to watch their side.
The current pitch size stands at 105 m x 68 m (115 yd x 74 yd), which is the maximum size allowed as part of UEFA’s governing regulations.
There are actually two playing surfaces at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the football pitch and a synthetic turf surface underneath reserved for NFL games or music events, in order to preserve the condition of the football pitch.
The football pitch can be retracted when other events are due to be hosted at the stadium, the first playing surface in the world to be retracted in three sections, the process can be completed in as little as 25 minutes.
Tottenham Hotspur stadium was built on the same site as the original stadium White Hart Lane, in the town of Tottenham in North London within the London Borough of Haringey.
Tottenham Hotspur do not recommend driving to the stadium, especially on match days, due a large controlled parking zone in operation in the area, roads surrounding the stadium are also generally closed before, during and immediately after a match.
The easiest way to visit the stadium is via public transport, with a number of London Underground and Overground stations providing transport, with the nearest station a short walk away.
The stadium area is also served by more than 140 buses an hour providing constant access.
The club offer a number of packages for visitors including children’s birthday parties, marriage proposal packages and stadium tours guided by legends of the club.
Additionally, the club offer unique climb challenges which offer thrill-seeking visitors the opportunity to participate in a sky-walk along the edge of the stadium.
Despite only opening in 2019, the stadium has hosted a number of eye-catching events in the short years since its opening.
The stadium was purpose built to host NFL games, with the club signing a ten-year agreement with the NFL to host multiple matches a year at the stadium.
Tottenham Hotspur stadium was also the venue for the Heavyweight Championship Boxing clash between Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk where 65,000 spectators were in attendance.
