Charlotte FC vs. Toronto FC: Picks, predictions, odds and player props

Read the latest picks, predictions, odds and player props for Toronto FC and Charlotte FC in the MLS.

The Reds’ season has started with far more promise than what fans witnessed last term when TFC finished rock-bottom of the East, as John Herdman’s men have drawn with MLS Cup semi-finalists Cincinnati and beaten New England in their opening pair of games.

Charlotte have an identical record to their hosts through two games, after beating New York City and drawing with Vancouver Whitecaps, suggesting a tight affair could unfold at BMO Field on Saturday.

Toronto FC vs. Charlotte FC betting picks and predictions

Tie +250

With both sides tied on four points in the East, it seems likely there will be little to split the pair on Saturday.

Based on last season’s form alone, Charlotte should be favorites for this clash, but Toronto have started the season impressively, with their 0-0 draw with Cincinnati a real signifier of just how much they have improved since being the 29th-ranked overall team in the MLS last season.

However, the Reds were outshot 22-8 in their narrow 1-0 victory over the Revolution last time out, suggesting there is still work to be done and a win against Charlotte may evade them.

Dean Smith’s men have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season and have lost just one of their last 10 MLS games in total, highlighting the strength in their ranks.

Toronto have improved markedly, but Charlotte finished 21 points better off than the Reds last term and should have enough to earn a point in Canada, just as they did in this fixture last year.

Under 2.5 goals (+107)

Toronto have scored just one goal this term, with the likes of Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi yet to get fully going this term, but luckily for the Reds, their defensive unit has been exceptional.

They have recorded a clean sheet in each of their opening games, with the return of Sean Johnson between the sticks a huge reason for those shutouts.

The American goalkeeper endured an injury-hit season last term - playing just 20 games - which was a huge reason for Toronto’s issues, but he is back fit and looking as impressive as ever in the shot-stopping department.

That should help the Reds stand firm at BDO Field on Saturday in what promises to be a tight affair. Like Toronto, neither of Charlotte’s opening games have gone over 2.5 goals, with Smith’s men winning 1-0 and drawing 1-1 to begin the season.

With both sides struggling to find the net but clearly adept in keeping the ball out at the other end, under 2.5 goals looks like a bet worth backing on Saturday.

Federico Bernardeschi Anytime Goalscorer +240

While Federico Bernardeschi is yet to score this term, he has still looked lively in Toronto’s opening pair of fixtures and it is only a matter of time before the goals start flowing.

The former Juventus forward netted five goals in the MLS last term - a solid return given his side’s woeful performances - and has carried that attacking intent into this season, registering eight shots in the first two games of the campaign.

Toronto’s first two games this season have been on the road but they will play host to Charlotte on Saturday and, given three of Bernardeschi’s five strikes last term came at BMO Field, he could break his seasonal duck in this clash.

The Italian forward netted in this fixture last year and could be one of few scorers in a tight game in Toronto.
