Australian Racing: Ramones boosted by great draw

There’s action from across the country this Wednesday with Eagle Farm (Queensland), Randwick Kensington (New South Wales), Sandown-Lakeside (Victoria), Balaklava (South Australia) and Belmont Park (Western Australia) all set to race.

The Randwick Kensington card looks the pick with an eight race card set to take place on a soft 6 track.

Ramones for third start glory

Sorgente showed plenty of ability when beaten just over a length in an 1100m event on a good 4 track when making his debut at this venue a fortnight ago and while he is likely to have his supporters for the Hugh Bowman/Chris Waller team it’s notable that he had Ramones one place ahead of him that day.

RAMONES is the better drawn of the pair in barrier four and having proven himself on wet tracks when finishing runner-up on a heavy 9 surface over 1100m at Warwick Farm on debut he looks the more solid option.

Jason Collett has been on board for both starts to date and the Zoustar gelding has attracted support in the market on each occasion including at fancy odds on his first start. Has joined the Joseph Pride stable since that latest second place finish and is taken to break his maiden at the third time of asking.

Dudwey to complete hat-trick

Top weight Sir William Bruce looks likely to jump as favourite ahead of the ninth race on the Eagle Farm card, an 1800m handicap contest.

Proven on a good 4 track when runner-up over 1600m at Sunshine Coast earlier this month he is open to improvement on his third start since transferring from Europe.

Tony Gollan’s charge may find the hat-trick seeking MR DUDWEY too good however with the Paul Butterworth-trained gelding seemingly find his feet since teaming up with apprentice Madeleine Wishart in recent starts.

The pair have won two of their three starts together including when winning a five runner Benchmark 60 contest by over four lengths on a good 4 track at Rockhampton 11 days ago. Tackles a tougher event here but looks to be on the up and can deliver a third consecutive victory.

Take Boyszee to score

There has been plenty of support for the Patrick F Ryan-trained Ferago in the third race on the Sandown Lakeside card and given his good record on a heavy track that should come as no surprise with the gelding completing a hat-trick when winning a Benchmark 64 event over 2440m on a heavy 10 track at Geelong earlier this month.

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace training partnership send out BOYSZEE here and it’s notable that he had excuses having struggled to find cover in addition to being bumped when finishing fifth in a course and distance event on a soft 7 track here last time out.

The promising Matthew Cartwright is engaged for the ride and his mount has already won this spell delivering a two-and-a-half-length triumph in a 2409m Benchmark 70 contest on a heavy 10 track at Geelong three starts back.

The pick is versatile with regards tactics which will prove helpful from barrier 13 and he is selected to return to the winners’ enclosure with forecast underfoot conditions to suit.
