Pendrith, a native of Richmond Hill, Canada, is coming off his first career PGA Tour win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
The 32-year-old is a +12500 shot to win the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club from May 16-19.
Pendrith has only ever competed in four major championships – the U.S. Open three times and the PGA Championship once. His best major finish came was a t-23 at the 2020 U.S. Open. He finished t-29 at the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill.
But the Canadian will like his chances at Valhalla after lifting his first trophy on the PGA Tour, and his first professional win in five years.
At the Byron Nelson, Pendrith leapfrogged Ben Kohles on the final hole of the tournament, the par-5 18th. Trailing Kohles by one entering the hole, Pendrith hit a birdie to move to 23-under, while Kohles hit the first bogey on No. 18 of the day, dropping to 22-under and losing the tournament.
It was Kohles only bogey of the round, and just his third of the tournament.
“I’ve never had a putt to win a PGA Tour event, so my caddie said this is the straightest putt we’ve had all year and just knock it in. It managed to slip in the left. I’m pretty happy,” Pendrith said to USA Today after the victory.
The win earned Pendrith automatic exemption to the 2024 PGA Championship.
