Vancouver Canucks vs. Colorado Avalanche: Odds, picks, predictions, injuries, TV & more

This week in the NHL got off to a heck of a start, and Tuesday's eight-game slate looks just as good with the Canucks vs. Avalanche standing out as the marquee contest.

This is a true heavyweight tilt no matter how you slice it.

The Canucks sit atop the NHL standings while the Avalanche are in a battle for Central Division supremacy.

While both teams are all but a formality for the playoffs, this game will almost certainly have a playoff-type feel and will be appointment TV on a Tuesday night.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Colorado Avalanche Predictions

Vancouver Canucks to win (+125)

This is going to be a heck of a game that could very well come down to the wire.

Between these two loaded teams, what looks to give the Canucks a bit more of an edge is their slightly better recent form. The Canucks have won five of their last nine games while the Avalanche stumbled out of the All-Star break a little bit and have just two wins in their last seven.

Another aspect that gives the Canucks appeal is they are the underdog. Vancouver sits atop the NHL by three points. Yet, they are getting plus money to win a game. Even against a good team like Colorado, getting plus money for Vancouver is too good to pass up.

The Avalanche are very good at home, but the Canucks are very good on the road. The Avalanche score the third most goals per game in the league, but the Canucks better them with the second most.

The Canucks also rank seventh in goals allowed per game which is much better than the 19th-ranked Avalanche.

Recent form, betting value, and overall team strength lean towards the 'Nucks in this one.

Elias Lindholm over 0.5 points (-125)

Elias Lindholm has been solid since being acquired by the Canucks, but he may have a little extra juice tonight as all eyes in the hockey world will be on this game. This is a true potential playoff matchup and will almost certainly play out that way.

Lindholm has four goals and six points in eight games played as a Canuck. Look for Lindholm to have a little extra pep in his step tonight and add to his current production.

It certainly does not hurt that Lindholm is slotted on Vancouver’s top line with Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander, as well as on the top power play with Pettersson, J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser, and Quinn Hughes.

At any point during the game, Lindholm will be on the ice with fantastic players. On the second best goal-producing team in the NHL, Elias Lindholm is in a premier spot to produce.

Over 6.5 total goals (-115)

These are a couple of very offensively talented teams. The Canucks and Avalanche are both ranked in the top three in the NHL in goals scored per game and due to their offensive prowess, high totals have been common in their seasons.

The over is 32-21-3 in Canucks' games this year, including 18-9-3 in games played on the road. The over is also 34-21-1 in Avalanche games, including 15-10-1 in games played at home.

Vancouver and Colorado have already met once this year in a game that hit a total of seven goals.

The total has gone over in four out of Vancouver’s last six games, as well as in five out of Colorado’s last six, and this game looks good to reinforce the high totals.

High-end talent, offensive upside, and recent trends give appeal to another over between these teams.
