Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars Game 5: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The 2024 NHL Western Conference Finals are even at 2-2 heading into Game 5 following the Edmonton Oilers’ huge win over the Dallas Stars in Game 4.

As we approach a pivotal Game 5 tonight, we’ve got our best Oilers vs. Stars picks to break down.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars betting picks and predictions

Over 6.0 Total Goals (+100)

The Oilers were able to tie the series 2-2 at home in Game 4, but it certainly didn’t seem that way to begin the game. The Stars shot out of the gates, scoring two quick goals within the first six minutes of the game.

That included a goal within the first minute by 21-year-old Wyatt Johnston, who has become a star in these playoffs. However, the Oilers remembered exactly what the Stars did to them in Game 3, stealing the game away after Edmonton took an early 2-0 lead.

With the series heading back to Dallas, we’d lean towards the Stars taking the 3-2 series lead, but that’s not our favorite approach. The commonality between the two games we just referenced is plenty of goals; there were seven and eight goals scored in those matchups.

That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, as these two teams were both inside the top five when it came to scoring goals on home ice. Similarly, each of the first two meetings between these squads in the regular season ended with seven goals.

Oddsmakers have also taken notice, as the total for Game 5 is now set at six goals, while each of the first four games of the series were set at 5.5 goals. Regardless, we’ll take the push condition with plus-money odds and make our Oilers vs. Stars best bet on Over 6.0 goals.

Jason Robertson over 0.5 assists (+105)

If we’re anticipating goals early and often, it’s only fitting that we also have a player prop pick for you. In that regard, we’re targeting Dallas’ Jason Robertson. He was the fuel that led to the Stars coming back from 2-0 in Game 4 and stealing the victory.

That was thanks to his incredible hat trick, but goals have not come as easily for the youngster as they did last season. He was in the midst of a 10-game goal drought prior to that, and that’s why we’ve seen guys like Johnston and captain Jamie Benn step up in that regard.

However, what Robertson has still been able to do is assist his teammates. While he didn’t score a single goal in the second round against the Colorado Avalanche, he recorded seven assists. That’s why we see him tied with Miro Heiskenen for the team lead in points this postseason with 16.

Admittedly, we still believe that he may find the back of the net again, but with plenty of goals to be expected, don’t be surprised if he ends up in both the scoring and assists columns.
