With Friday night’s win, the Edmonton Oilers are now just a game away from their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 2006, having taken a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference Finals.
Of course, the Dallas Stars will be hoping they have something to say about that when the two teams take to the ice in Sunday night's Game 6 at Rogers Place.
With their backs against the wall and their season on the line, it goes without saying that the Stars will be as motivated as ever and put everything they have into this Game 6. Although they’ll have to travel up to Canada to try and force a Game 7, that’s only providing us with more value in the betting markets.
As great and high scoring as the Stars has been in the Lone Star State, they also haven’t minded being away from American Airlines Center. This postseason, Jason Robertson and his Dallas team-mates are 6-2-0 on the road.
We also have plenty of reason to believe that Robertson and company will be able to find the back of the net far more often than they did in Game 5.
Goaltending has been the primary reason as to why the Oilers haven’t been to the Stanley Cup Final since 2006, and while Stuart Skinner has certainly been an improvement, he’s still no Martin Brodeur.
In other words, we saw several saves from Skinner that we don’t expect to be sustainable. We also don’t anticipate star defenseman Miro Heiskanen to find himself in the penalty box to provide Edmonton with a further power play opportunity, which is how they scored each of their two first-period goals.
Prior to that, the Stars had prevented them from scoring a goal with the man advantage throughout the entire first four games of the series. Doing that against such an explosive offensive team is as impressive as it gets, and that should help them extend the series to the full seven games.
More offense is expected from the Stars in Game 7, and that should involve the aforementioned Miro Heiskanen. We’ve targeted him in this series already and, as expected, he came through.
So, although he may not have recorded a point in Friday’s Game 5, that isn’t going to deter us from targeting him yet again.
The defenseman is one of the few skaters in the world that can keep pace with the great Connor McDavid, and of course, he is also a great offensive threat.
His tally of 16 points throughout this postseason so far is tied for the team lead, with 10 of them being assists. Frankly, we’d expect an even more lopsided ratio, as helpers are by far the majority of his points, with 45 of his 54 points throughout the regular season being assists.
With the way Wyatt Johnston has been shooting - he scored the Stars' only goal in Game 5 - and a healthy Roope Hintz, there are plenty of skaters for Heiskanen to pass to.
Along with the fact that we expect more from Jason Robertson and captain Jamie Benn, a Miro Heiskanen assist is the way to go when it comes to the player prop markets.
