Arguably the most exciting of all the Game 1 contests was the 7-6 thriller between the Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, and they're back at it for Game 2 on Tuesday.
The two are back on the ice in Winnipeg before the series heads to the Mile High City on Friday, and we’re here to break down our best predictions and player props alongside the latest odds.
The Avalanche vs Jets series was the first one in the Western Conference to be set, so both teams had plenty of time to prepare for the first-round clash. After all, they are Central Division rivals.
There has not been much difference between the two sides historically but that has not been the case so far this year.
Winnipeg won all three meetings with Colorado this season, and in dominant fashion. They won those games by final scores of 4-2, 6-2 and 7-0.
However, given the pure talent of the Avs and their Stanley Cup win just two seasons ago, they entered the series as the favourite. But the Jets showed that the regular season success was no fluke with that Game 1 success.
It perhaps wasn’t as dominant, which is why we’re going to isolate a more specific market, as there is certainly a chance that Colorado bounces back to even up the series. We’re eyeing Winnipeg’s team total and there are great plus-money odds for them to do something that they have done plenty of times against the Avs this season.
As you can see by the scores above, they scored four or more goals in all three regular season games against Colorado, and they scored seven in Game 1.
Even if the Avs do even up the series, we’re expecting at least four goals from Winnipeg.
If the Jets are going to find the back of the net early and often, that means we should also have several opportunities for offensive player props. After checking out the latest odds, it’s impossible to ignore the great price for Nikolaj Ehlers to record at least one assist.
He certainly has the ability to find the back of the net himself, but the majority of his 61 points this season were assists and he should get plenty of opportunities to send out helpers to his teammates.
As if that wasn’t enough, much of that success this season came against the Avs specifically. Ehlers was on the ice for all three games against Colorado in the regular season, recording five points in the process, four of which were assists.
Taking all that into consideration, we’re taking Nikolaj Ehlers at great odds to bounce back from his opening blank to record an assist in Game 2.
