Toronto Blue Jays: Spring Training schedule, results, roster, how to watch

The Toronto Blue Jays did not make any big splashes this offseason, but making the playoffs last season laid a good foundation for the 2024 campaign.

The Blue Jays' Spring Training games begin on February 24 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Spring Training gives each team about a month to practice and get in-game looks at their offseason acquisitions, highly-regarded prospects and their returning players.

For Toronto, hopes are high this season. Let’s dig into the Blue Jays’ Spring Training schedule, roster, players to watch for and more.

TV Channel and how to watch Blue Jays Spring Training

Blue Jays Spring Training games will be available to watch on Sportsnet and its affiliate networks.

Blue Jays Opening Day projected lineup

Although Opening Day is still over a month away, Toronto’s lineup looks fairly set already. Seven of the nine projected players in the lineup were on the team last year with only two players being offseason acquisitions. With that said, here is how the Blue Jays are expected to take the field on Opening Day.

George Springer (LF)
Bo Bichette (SS)
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (1B)
Justin Turner (DH)
Cavan Biggio (2B)
Alejandro Kirk (C)
Daulton Varsho (RF)
Isiah Kiner-Falefa (3B)
Kevin Kiermaier (CF)

Blue Jays Spring Training players to watch

Justin Turner, DH

One of the few offseason moves the Blue Jays did was sign slugger Justin Turner.

Turner, who had played most of his career with the Dodgers, signed a 1-year deal with the Red Sox for the 2023 season and hit .276 with 96 RBIs in 146 games. He will likely be the cleanup hitter for the Blue Jays this season.

Alek Manoah, P

Alek Manoah had one of the most up-and-down seasons last year. After being an All-Star in 2022, Manoah had a historically bad 2023 season. He was sent all the way down to Rookie ball at one point. Manoah will be the x-factor for the Blue Jays this season because if he pitches like he did in 2022, the Jays have an elite pitching rotation.

Davis Schneider, 2B

One of the biggest surprises from the 2023 season was Davis Schneider. The second baseman appeared in 35 games for the Jays and hit .276 with a 1.008 OPS. He provided a much-needed boost to the lineup in the second half of the season and he will likely be a key member of the bench unit in 2024.

Ricky Tiedemann, P

Toronto’s #1 prospect is Ricky Tiedemann, a pitcher out of Golden West College. At just 21 years old, Tiedemann likely won’t make the team out of Spring Training. He is expected to start the year in Triple-A and could appear in the Majors during 2024 if injuries start to pile up. Tiedemann suffered several injuries last year that prevented him from a full season, so staying healthy will be key for him this year.

Orelvis Martinez, INF

One of the most exciting prospects the Blue Jays have is Orelvis Martinez. The infielder is 22 years old and hit .263 in Triple-A last year. Since the Blue Jays don’t have a lot of depth at second or third base, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him called up at some point in 2024. It will be interesting to see how he performs in Spring Training.
