New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

A new week in Major League Baseball begins with the New York Yankees traveling north of the border to take on the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees come into this divisional matchup with a 12-4 record, while the Blue Jays are 8-8 after 16 games.

The starting pitching matchup for tonight’s game features Luis Gil of the Yankees and Chris Bassitt for the Blue Jays.

Gil has looked fantastic through two starts while Bassitt is struggling to get his ERA back into the respectable range.

New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays betting picks and predictions

Yankees ML (-110)

The oddsmakers have made this game a pick’em, which means both teams have the same odds to win, but with the pitching matchup in mind there should be a favorite in this game.

Gil has allowed just three runs and three hits through nine innings while racking up 14 strikeouts. He can sometimes struggle with walks.

But the Blue Jays are not a patient team at the plate and when he faced them earlier this year, Gil finished with eight strikeouts in just 4.2 innings in his last start at Yankee Stadium.

Toronto has had a disappointing start to the season. The big three of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, and George Springer have not made an impact while Justin Turner appears to be the only hitter that is seeing the ball well right now.

That has led to the Jays ranking in the bottom of most offensive categories in the first few weeks of the season. Plus, with Bassitt on the mound, the Blue Jays are going to need to provide plenty of run support - something they have struggled with all season.

The Yankees should be able to take game one of the series.

Over 8.5 (-120)

The Yankees offense has been on fire as they average nearly five runs a game. Juan Soto has made a major impact in his first few weeks in pinstripes while Aaron Judge finally seems to be hitting his stride.

With Soto, Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gleyber Torres at the top of the lineup, the Yankees can score runs in bunches. That was the case in their most recent series in Cleveland as New York scored 15 runs in the final two games of the series.

It’s no secret that the Blue Jays offense has not lived up to expectations thus far. However, Toronto has scored five runs in back-to-back games and the lineup came to life on Sunday as the offense finished with 12 hits against the Colorado Rockies.

George Springer had a multi-hit game and Justin Turner was phenomenal, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. If Bichette can get going, the offense has a lot of potential.

Expect the Blue Jays to try and slow things down against Gil and get a few baserunners which should lead to this game seeing plenty of runs. Take the over in the series opener in Toronto.
