NBA: Midweek Preview

The new NBA campaign is now under way and there are some huge match-ups to look forward to this week.

Tuesday night sees defending champions Golden State Warriors come up against Phoenix Suns, who claimed the top seed in the West last season, and on Wednesday Eastern Conference big guns Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets clash.

There are four games taking place on Tuesday and the clear highlight sees Golden State Warriors make the trip to conference rivals Phoenix.

The Suns finished last season with the best overall record in the league to claim the #1 seed in the West, but they faded in the playoffs.

Golden State went all the way and beat Boston Celtics in the Finals Series - and there is a very real chance Tuesday’s game is a postseason series preview.

The Warriors and Phoenix are amongst those fancied to go all the way and there seems little to separate these two ambitious teams after identical starts to the season.

Both teams have posted 2-1 records after three games, with Phoenix’s one defeat coming in overtime against Portland Trail Blazers and the Dubs losing out to Denver Nuggets.

These teams split the regular season series 2-2 last term and Tuesday’s game is an opportunity for both to make an early season statement.

Los Angeles Clippers are also in action on Tuesday as they head to Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks travel to New Orleans Pelicans, while there is an intriguing clash in the East as Washington Wizards host Detroit Pistons.

The Wizards and Detroit missed out on the playoffs last season and will be looking to return to the postseason this year, and Tuesday’s game is a chance for both sides to claim a win over a key rival.

There is a lot of attention on the Brooklyn Nets after a difficult offseason and as they try and work out a new rhythm with Ben Simmons in the team alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Brooklyn have one win and one loss after two games, although they will have faced Memphis Grizzlies on Monday before they suit up to take on Milwaukee Bucks in Wisconsin on Wednesday.

The Bucks don’t play again until the Nets arrive and they remain unbeaten after two games, seeing off Philadelphia 76ers and Houston Rockets.

The Eastern Conference looks wide open this year and both the Bucks and Brooklyn will feel they have the talent to reach the Finals.

There are nine other games on a bumper Wednesday and the Lakers trip to Denver is another clear highlight.

The Nuggets have Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr back after lengthy injury absences and have made an encouraging 2-1 start to the season, including a 128-123 victory at Golden State.

The Lakers and new coach Darwin Ham already find themselves under pressure after starting the new season with three defeats, and both of these teams don’t play again until their match-up in midweek.

Philadelphia 76ers are another team facing intense scrutiny after a 0-3 start but they do have a chance to claim a first win when they host Indiana Pacers on Monday.

If they lose that game, their next assignment comes on Wednesday when they face a Toronto Raptors outfit who have made a mixed start to the season with one win and two defeats ahead of their own game on Monday, a trip to Miami Heat.

Portland have been one of the surprise packages in their early stages of the campaign with three straight wins. The Blazers entertain Denver on Monday and then come up against the Heat on Thursday.

Thursday is a little quieter with just four games ahead of a packed weekend schedule and Brooklyn Nets take on Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in what should be an entertaining affair.

Doncic has scored over 30 points in both of his appearances so far, and has a chance to test himself against one of the league’s top defenders in Simmons, as well as two fellow superstars in Durant and Irving.

The Warriors are in action against the Heat, while the Clippers travel to OKC and Sacramento Kings entertain the Grizzlies.
