Royal Ascot - Racing: Mawj may go at Albany Stakes

Saeed bin Suroor has signalled that Mawj could head to Royal Ascot following her impressive win in the 6f novice stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Godolphin-owned filly made a winning start to her career under Ray Dawson when finishing four-and-three-quarters lengths clear of Believing, in a race that was won by 1,000 Guineas winner Cachet last year.

Bin Suroor, who secured an across-the-card treble on Saturday with a double at Chelmsford, is now keen on a trip to the Royal meeting next month, with the Albany Stakes on 17th June a real possibility for Mawj after her victory.

The trainer had one other runner on Saturday as Real World finished second to Baaeed in the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

Confident

The Godolphin team are set to have plenty of chances at Ascot and Bin Suroor is confident that the Exceed And Excel filly can be one of the leading contenders.

He said: "She will improve for this and we will look for a better class race now. She will probably go to the Albany. Hopefully she is a filly with a nice future.

"She worked well last Saturday and she showed her class which gave her a chance and she has finished that race well."

He added: "I've some other nice two-year-olds that I've not run yet but she is a nice filly that has shown up well and she has always shown plenty of speed at home."
