NBA - US Sports: Irving plans to stick with Nets

Kyrie Irving could become an unrestricted free agent this summer but the guard says he has no intention of walking away from Brooklyn Nets.

The Nets are in action on Sunday as they entertain Charlotte Hornets. Brooklyn can be backed at 10/11 to win with a -7 handicap in the Point Spread, while Charlotte are 12/5 to come out on top in the Money Line.

Tough campaign to date

Irving has endured a difficult season at Brooklyn as he missed the first half of the campaign due to the fact he was unable to play in home games.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics star was brought back into the team in January for road games only.

However, he is now free to play in New York again and is set to make his first appearance of the campaign at the Barclays Center when the Hornets visit.

"I didn't want to get too excited," he said prior to Saturday's win at Miami Heat, via ESPN. "Still tonight, I'm trying to stay focused on this game. But I know tomorrow will eventually come and I'm looking forward to playing back in Brooklyn."

The Nets saw their big three broken up in February as James Harden departed for Philadelphia 76ers, with Ben Simmons moving in the opposite direction, on the trade deadline.

Irving-Durant still strong

There has been speculation Irving could seek a new challenge at the end of the campaign but he insists he is happy with the Nets and doesn't want to break up his partnership with Kevin Durant.

"There's no way I'm leaving my man #7 [Durant] anywhere," he told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

The Nets sit in eighth spot in the East ahead of the visit of the Hornets, with eight regular season games remaining.

Brooklyn are three games behind Toronto Raptors in sixth, the final automatic playoff spot, and may have to win all their remaining regular season games if they are to avoid the play-in tournament.
