Canada vs. Finland: 4-Nations Faceoff Picks, Predictions and Odds

Things are getting real in the 4 Nations Face-Off, as each team plays their third and final round robin game. The tournament is now switching from the Bell Centre in Montreal, to TD Garden in Boston. Just three games remain in what has been an electric battle between Canada, Sweden, Finland, and USA.

Kicking off Monday in the tournament is a battle between Canada and Finland. These teams each have an overtime win and a regulation loss so far. With an equal record, this is a do or die between the two nations.

We know Canada is packed with talent, but Finland has shown they are not going down without a fight. This game could be a lot closer than we may have assumed before the tournament began, as both look to secure a spot in the championship game against USA. To get you set for this huge game, here are our Canada vs. Finland predictions.

Canada vs. Finland 4 Nations Face-Off betting picks and predictions

Canada -1.5 (-155)

Canada came into this tournament as the favorites, but out of six possible points in two games, they have only accumulated two. They secured a 4-3 overtime win over Sweden, before suffering a 3-1 loss to USA, who is now locked in the championship game.

With Canada, Sweden, and Finland all within one point, this is a crucial game and the two nations need to put their best foot forward.

At their best the pick has to be Canada, as their elite lineup does not compare to Finland who is lacking the depth and star power. The likes of Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and Nathan MacKinnon will ensure that their team is ready, because not only are these some of the best players in the world, but they are some of the best leaders who have been in these high pressure situations time and time again. They will lead by example against what should be a hungry Finland team.

Finland was able to secure an impressive win over Sweden in overtime, so while this proves they must be taken seriously, I don’t expect them to win.

This game is expected to go similarly to their matchup with Team USA, where they keep things close early on, but become overwhelmed with a constant and threatening attack by an elite Canadian roster.

Canada holds themselves to a high standard no matter what the tournament is, but the key here is that they have the players and coaching staff to do what is expected of them. I think they will win this game handily in a do-or-die affair.

Over 6.5 (+115)

After they scored four goals in the opening game, Canada’s offense dried up in their second with just one goal in a 3-1 loss.

However, they were playing a dominantly-defensive USA group, although Canada holds high expectations of themselves and know they have to be much better. Especially when they have some of the best NHL players to ever play, such as Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, and Connor McDavid.

Canada has a chance to reignite their offensive capability against a Finland team that has given up nine goals in two games, and I believe they will do so. Team Canada is filled to the brim with outstanding offensive players, which is why they came into the tournament as favorites.

Finland is facing many injuries and has a depleted defensive core, and Canada will exploit them in the same way USA did when they scored six goals. An added urgency from Canada should push this point even further.

Finland can also join in on the scoring. The report on Finland usually talks about their lack of depth, but it cannot be forgotten that they are equipped with some of their own top NHL talent. Those would include Aleksander Barkov, Mikko Rantanen, and Sebastian Aho. These are players who are constant offensive threats, so in a game where they will need their best efforts, a few goals should be coming their way. Combined, these two should give us a high-scoring game.
