Royal Ascot - Horse Racing: Graeme Rodway's Day Four Tips

The sun will be beating down on day four of Royal Ascot and the Coronation Stakes (4.20) is the feature. The Racing Post's Graeme Rodway gives his best bets across the first four races.

Here's our look ahead to the opening four races on day four at Royal Ascot which you can watch via our Sports Live Streaming service.

Don’t stop Believing in Boughey’s promising juvenile

Believing made a promising debut when second in a 6f novice at Newmarket on her debut in May and she looks the value bet in the opening Albany Stakes (2.30) after an easy win last time.

The daughter of Mehmas probably didn't need to better her debut form to win that 6f novice at Wolverhampton, but there was a lot to like about the way she won because she looked in a huge amount of trouble when rearing and losing many lengths at the start, yet overcame that.

She was wide and got bumped on the home turn before running green when in the clear and the fact she was able to win so dominantly despite so much going wrong says a lot about her.

Trainer George Boughey won the 1,000 Guineas with Cachet and is a trainer on the up.

Course form could prove key for Ehraz

Horses who have run well on Ascot's straight track often come back and do so time and again and course-and-distance winner Ehraz looks a solid bet in the Commonwealth Cup (3.05).

His whole season will have revolved around this race and trainer Richard Hannon has brought his runner along slowly. Ehraz probably needed the run when third behind Go Bears Go in the trial for this race in April and was unlucky not to win at Newbury on his last start.

Ehraz finished strongly and was catching the winner of that race, Tiber Flow, when the winning post appeared and he lost by a short-head. This stiffer track will help Ehraz reverse those places and my selection is well suited by quick ground, so has conditions in his favour.

Harrington can give punters a Present

Jessica Harrington has a good record at Royal Ascot and it looks significant that the leading Irish trainer is keen to run Ever Present in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (3.40) on his return.

Harrington could surely have found easier races for the lightly raced six-year-old on his return from 279 days off and the fact she runs here, off top weight of 10st, is a tip in itself.

Ever Present was last seen beating 22 rivals in a red-hot 1m5f premier handicap at Leopardstown in September and he was no stronger than at the finish, getting up late.

He put in some impressive sectionals that day and looks capable of continuing his progress.

Give Tenebrism one more chance

Turn the clock back to the start of May and Tenebrism went off 11-4 favourite to beat most of these rivals in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket but never got into it, finishing eighth of 13.

That was her seasonal reappearance and maybe she wasn't fully tuned up. There will be no excuses on that score here and she is worth another chance in the Coronation Stakes (4.20).

She looked like one of the best juveniles in Britain and Ireland when winning her first two starts, including the Group 1 Cheveley Park at Newmarket, and a reproduction of that might be enough. Aidan O'Brien must be confident she can bounce back as she is his only runner.
