Esports: Call of Duty League Major Four Friday qualifiers

There are only three days remaining in qualifying for the fourth Major of the Call of Duty League season and the action continues with a triple-header on Friday.

All 12 teams in the Call of Duty League will be competing in Major Four but qualifying is still important in deciding the seeds of the teams in the main event.

And the need for points is intensifying with only one Major to go after this event - the Major Five in Toronto - before the post-season kicks in.

As it stands, OpTic Texas and Los Angeles Thieves are the frontrunners in Major Four qualifying, having already secured a top-eight spot, while Florida Mutineers are just playing for pride at this stage with a 0-4 win-loss record to their name.

Toronto Ultra and Las Vegas Legion kick off the action on Friday before contests between LA Guerrillas and OpTic Texas and Atlanta FaZe and Minnesota ROKKR.

Eager to build on their first title success of the season in Major Three, Toronto Ultra have made a stuttering start to qualifying for Major Four and risk being dealt a bad seed for the main event.

Ultra have lost three of their four matches in qualifying for Major Four, losing to Boston Breach, Seattle Surge and Atlanta FaZe before bouncing back with a 3-0 thumping of basement boys Florida Mutineers.

But they will need more about them in the final week of qualifiers if they are to stand any chance of placing in the top eight.

They start against Las Vegas Legion, who have a 2-1 record but missed out on a place in the top eight themselves in Major Three qualifying before only making the third round of the main event.

Ultra are fancied to win this at -400 and should get the job done but given their recent run, a clean sweep looks unlikely so back a 3-1 win for Toronto at +150.

Having impressed during the main event in Major Three, OpTic Texas have been the standout side in qualifying for Major Four.

Texas reached the final of Major Three, sweeping aside Atlanta FaZe 3-1 in the final of the losers' bracket, only to go down 4-2 against Toronto Ultra in the Grand Final.

But they are evidently a team who are never down for long and have a 3-0 record in Major Four qualifying, having eased past London Royal Ravens, New York Subliners and LA Thieves and conceding only two maps in the process.

It is no surprise to see them -1000 to beat LA Guerrillas, who are 0-3 in this qualifying campaign, and a bet on Texas to win this 3-0 offers a little value at +138.

ROKKR can give big guns Atlanta FaZe a game

Having finished runners-up in last year's Call of Duty League Championship, Atlanta FaZe are always worth keeping an eye on and they lead the way in the overall standings in 2023.

FaZe have recorded 235 points after the first three Majors with Toronto Ultra just behind them on 215, so there is no room for complacency.

But despite the standings, this season has had a wide-open feel to it with each of the first three Majors having been won by different sides.

Atlanta will want to lay down a marker in Major Four but they are one of six teams on a 2-1 record heading into this weekend's qualifiers and they have work to do.

Their opponents on Friday Minnesota ROKKR are another side with a 2-1 record and they could rock the boat in this match.

ROKKR were horrendous in Major Three qualifying, finishing bottom of the pile with a 0-5 record, but since replacing experienced talent Dillon "Attach" Price with Kevin "Fame" Bonanno things have started to look up.

They can make this match more competitive than the odds suggest and are worth chancing at +1.5 on the match handicap at -100.
