A busy day of racing ahead on Wednesday with eight meetings taking place across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.
Bright Daisy looks an improving sort after two runs and can go well upped in class at Doomben, while supporters of Gusonic will be eager for some compensation after having their fingers burned earlier in the month.
Healey's Daisy ready to blossom
Amongst the highlights at Doomben on Wednesday is the Class 1 Sky Racing Plate over 1050 metres and it could be a good spot for Billy Healey's Bright Daisy to continue her race-to-race development.
A wining debut was made at Ballina just after the turn of the year as she beat off Continuum and Hoofprint by nearly five-lengths, racing on the front end throughout and kicking clear in good style.
We saw her for the second time at Sunshine Coast earlier this month where she finished a length-and-a-half third behind Sip It Slow and Phantom Spirit, shaping very much as though she might come on for the run after her break.
Those two runs amount to a more than pleasing start and Robbie Fradd's mount looks one of the more interesting outsiders in this field now taking a rise in class.
Lady Austen won for the first time at Sunshine Coast recently and is another with claims, while the returning Snappy Reply is another likely to prove popular in the betting.
Tony Gollan's four-year-old has been off the track for more than a year but is proven to go well after a break and so a big first-up run is deemed probable.
However, Bright Daisy is an unexposed filly and has the potential to outrun her odds in this field.
Gusonic to make amends
The Donna Scott-trained Gusonic was unable to reward his supporters last time at Wagga but could soon make amends now.
A winner at Canberra in March on soft going, he's held his form together nicely since, placing in all three starts – twice at Wagga either side of a runner-up finish at Ballarat last month.
He went off favourite this month over 1400 metres after coming in for sustained support in the betting. He got away alertly and led the field but was agonisingly caught by Matthew Dale's Toulon Brook in the final strides at Wagga.
The drop back to 1300 metres won't inconvenience him now and while he's shown himself well able to handle cut in the ground, his win at Canberra earlier this year came on just the sort of surface forecast for this Kensington meeting. Tim Clark's partner can continue his good spell and may belatedly reward those that supported him earlier in the month.
Calgary Queen is another that may be up on the early speed while the Kris Lees runner Tawfiq Lass is another on the shortlist.
