Daily Faceoff's Weekly NHL Risers and Fallers

We've finally seen some movement in the top 10. While it's not a big move, the Winnipeg Jets fell to 11th, and the Nashville Predators moved up one spot to the 10th seed.

It wasn't just the top 10 that saw movmeent — none of the seeds between 16 and 27 remained the same.

Tuesday: 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins (22nd)

Thursday: 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets (11th)

Player of the Week: Jack Hughes

Jack Hughes earned this week's honour as he finished the week with three goals, three assists and a +3 rating, averaging 20:11 minutes of ice time. The middle of the trio of Hughes brothers wouldn't finish one game this week with a minus rating. With just four points from Jesper Bratt, Hughes tied him for the team lead in points.

Shots on goal bettors would have only cashed his over twice this week, but in the game against the Jets, he finished with 10 shots on goal. He would finish the week averaging 5.0 shots per game.

Player of the Week: Moritz Seider

Moritz Seider finished the week with one goal, two assists, and a +5 rating in 21:19 of average ice time. He also got into his first NHL fight on Saturday against the Nashville Predators Filip Forsberg and impressively held his own. Shots on goal bettors would have cashed his over in two of three games this week.

It was hard not to make this Dylan Larkin, as the captain returned and showed exactly why he was so valuable to this team. He would score two clutch goals in the game we highlighted last week against the New York Islanders – firmly putting the Red Wings in front of them in the Wild Card race.

Let Down of the Week: Nazem Kadri / The Whole Team

Nazem Kadri finished this week with zero points and a -5 rating in 19:08 of average ice time. Kadri would finish each game with a negative rating. However, shot on goal bettors would have cashed this bet in two of his three games this week.

It seemed unfair to just single out Kadri, as every forward in the top nine and defenceman in the top four would finish with a negative rating. Only the fourth line and the bottom pairing would finish positively.

Let Down of the Week: Connor Hellebuyck

Connor Hellebuyck is having a fantastic season this year and is the undoubted front-runner for the Vezina trophy. This week proves precisely why he's this team's MVP this season, as when he has a bad week, it trickles down throughout the whole team.

Hellebuyck finished the week with a 1-2 record, a 5.12 goals-against average, and a .867 save percentage. His game against the New York Islanders, in which he was pulled after allowing his fifth goal just halfway through the second period, may have inflated these numbers a tad, but it was nonetheless a disappointing week.

Week 25 Lookahead

Big challenge this week for two Wild Card teams

The Detroit Red Wings and Vegas Golden Knights are battling for the final Wild Card spot in their respective conferences. The Red Wings are just one point back of the Capitals for that final spot in the East, while the Golden Knights have a bit of a cushion, as they're four points ahead of the St. Louis Blues out West.

The Red Wings play three games this week, all against playoff teams. The biggest game of the week is Tuesday night, with the Red Wings travelling to Washington for a date with the Capitals. The winner of this game will sit in the Eastern Conference's final Wild Card spot. Consider the under in this playoff-style game; historically, these teams have gone under the 6.5 line in five of their last seven head-to-head meetings.

The Wings' other two opponents this week are the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes, making the Tuesday game even more crucial for them.

With a successful week, the Vegas Golden Knights could all but solidify their position in the postseason.

Starting on Monday night, the Golden Knights play the team that's hot on their tail, the St. Louis Blues. A win tonight would bring the Blues within two points of the Golden Knights. Consider Jack Eichel's shots on goal prop for this game tonight. Eichel has cleared this line in eight of his last 10 games, averaging 5.3 shots on 8.1 shot attempts.

The rest of the Golden Knights' week consists of a meeting with Western Conference Wild Card leaders the Nashville Predators, the third-placed Central Division team in the Winnipeg Jets, and Wild Card longshots the Minnesota Wild.

This is a season-defining week for the Golden Knights, and it comes while their Stanley Cup-winning starting goalie is out with an injury. It should be interesting whether Vegas can shut the door on the teams on the outside looking in, or if they leave the door wide open to spark an intense race down the stretch.
