Daily Faceoff's Weekly NHL Risers and Fallers

This was another week where we saw a lot of movement around the top of the league -- with all top-10 teams moving at least one spot and just one team – Vegas - dropping out of the top-10.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are the ones to overtake last years' Stanley Cup champions for a top-10 position.

Risers

New Jersey Devils

20th -> 13th (+7) 

Last Week's Record: 3-1. +6 points. 

Monday: 3-1 win over the Seattle Kraken (24th) 

Tuesday: 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators (18th) 

Thursday: 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings (12th) 

Saturday: 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers (15th) 

Division Standings: Fourth in the Metropolitan (+1), five points behind the Philadelphia Flyers. 

Wild Card Standings: Third in the wild card (+1), two points behind the Detroit Red Wings.

Player of the Week: Jack Hughes

Honourable mention to Nico Daws, who played all four games this week and registered outstanding numbers. But it's clear that Jack Hughes really drives this team and needed to point out his dominant play. 

Hughes had a point in all four games, totaling two goals and three assists. He finished with a +1 rating, and shots on goal bettors would be very happy with him, as he cleared his 3.5 line in all four games, averaging 6.0 shots on 8.5 shot attempts per game.

Dallas Stars

4th -> 2nd (+2) 

Last Week's Record: 2-0-1. +5 points. 

Tuesday: 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes (8th) 

Thursday: 9-2 win over Nashville Predators (18th) 

Saturday: 4-3 overtime loss over the Edmonton Oilers (9th) 

Division Standings: First in the Central (-), three points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche. 

League Standings: Fifth in the league (-1), five points behind the Vancouver Canucks.

Player of the Week: Matt Duchene

There were a few players to choose from for the Stars, but nobody shined brighter than Duchene. With goals in all three games, totalling four goals, seven points and a +4 rating, it was an easy decision. Shots on goal bettors would have cashed his bet in two of three games this week. 

Not only did Duchene and the Stars embarrass their division rival, Nashville Predators, 9-2 on Thursday night, but he would later perform in a Nashville country bar to rub salt in the wounds of Predators fans and make them regret the decision to trade him this off-season.

Let Down of the Week: Roman Josi

Normally, when you allow nine goals in a week, the goalie would be to blame -- but Saros finished with a .935+ save percentage in two of those three games. 

Roman Josi didn't have a terrible week, finishing with three assists. He wouldn't finish a game this week with a positive rating, sitting with a -3 weekly rating while averaging 24:18 minutes of time on ice per game. Shots on goal bettors wouldn't hit his 3.5 line once this week, averaging 2.3 shots on 7.0 attempts.

Calgary Flames

17th -> 21st (-4) 

Last Week's Record: 0-3. 0 points. 

Monday: 2-0 loss to the New York Rangers (5th)

Thursday: 6-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks (32nd) 

Saturday: 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings (16th) 

Division Standings: Sixth in the Pacific (-1), 10 points behind the Edmonton Oilers. 

Wild Card Standings: Sixth in the wild card (-2), five points behind the St. Louis Blues.

Let Down of the Week: Rasmus Andersson

Andersson would finish the week without a point, a -5 rating in 22:52 minutes time on ice -- the second-highest on the team. He would only cover his shots on goal line in one of three games. Expect the struggles to continue for Andersson as he faces three of the bottom six teams in allowing shots to the position.

Kings get back into the Pacific division race

The Kings had a horrible stretch before the All-Star break with a 3-8-6 record -- they nearly played themselves out of the playoff race. Los Angeles has the easiest remaining strength of schedule based on points percentage, and that easy schedule begins this week. 

The three games the Kings are set to play this week are against the Columbus Blue Jackets (29th), Nashville Predators (18th) and Anaheim Ducks (30th). While the Predators are around even in the updated rankings with the Kings, they're struggling as of late as one of this week's biggest fallers. Expect the Kings to make up some ground in the standings this week and consider their money line throughout the week.

Predators shots on goal props

While yes, the Predators have been struggling lately, it's a positive when targeting their shots on goal props. Three of their four meetings against bottom 10 teams in terms of shots on goal allowed (Vegas Golden Knights 8th, San Jose Sharks 1st, and Anaheim Ducks 4th). 

Players to consider? Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi. 

When teams tend to struggle, it's easiest to turn to your most reliable players to get your squad back in the win column. Nashville ranks third in powerplay opportunities per game over their last 10 games. Filip Forsberg is the one to benefit the most from the powerplay, as he leads the team in powerplay shots on goal and shot attempts. 

Roman Josi is second on the team, but positionally, these teams allow most of their shots to defensemen. Consider one of our letdowns of the week's shots on goal prop against the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks who allow the most and second, respectively, most shots to defenseman over their last 10 games.
