Every Canadian to play in the Premier League

Stars such as Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David are currently representing Canada in Europe's elite leagues and a number of their compatriots have played in the English Premier League.

Read on for a list of the 11 Canucks who have made appearances in England's top division.

Scott Arfield

Premier League club: Burnley
Premier League appearances: 86
Premier League goals: 5

Scottish-born midfielder Scott Arfield represented his birth country at youth level, but was eligible to make 19 appearances for the Maple Leafs thanks to his Toronto-born father.

Arfield was a regular starter for Burnley for five seasons - three of which were in the Premier League - before joining Rangers in Scotland. He now plays for Charlotte FC in MLS.

Jim Brennan

Club: Norwich City

Goals: 0

Jim Brennan's Premier League career was short and not particularly successful. The defender, who grew up in Newmarket, Ontario, joined Norwich City at the start of the 2003/04 season, after which the club was promoted from the Championship.

However, fitness issues restricted him to nine Championship appearances and ten in the Premier League the following season as the Canaries were relegated back to the second tier. He finished his playing career at Toronto FC in 2010.

Theo Corbeanu

The only Canadian to currently be contracted to a Premier League club, Maple Leafs winger Theo Corbeanu has made just one league appearance for the Molineux outfit.

The promising 21-year-old has been sent out on loan to various destinations and will spend the 2023/24 season at Swiss club Grasshopper.

Terry Dunfield

Club: Manchester City

Goals: 0

Midfielder Terry Dunfield joined Man City as a teenager and made his only Premier League appearance in the final game of the 2000/01 season, coming off the bench against Chelsea.

Dunfield would bounce around the lower leagues before returning to Canada, playing for Vancouver Whitecaps then Toronto FC. He is now Toronto's interim manager.

David Edgar

Clubs: Newcastle United, Burnley

Goals: 2

Born in Kitchener, Ontario, David Edgar made 19 appearances for Newcastle United between 2006 and 2009 before signing for Burnley, playing four times in a season which saw them relegated from the Premier League.

However, Edgar later became a first-team regular for the club in the Championship. He featured for several English teams before returning home, ending his playing career at Forge FC in 2020.

Craig Forrest

Clubs: Ipswich Town, Chelsea, West Ham

The only goalkeeper on the list and one of the most famous Canadians to grace the Premier League, Craig Forrest spent eight seasons at Ipswich Town which included 74 appearances in the EPL.

Forrest would go on to represent Chelsea and West Ham, winning the Intertoto Cup with the Hammers, while he also played a key role in Canada's triumph at the 2000 Concacaf Gold Cup, where he was named tournament MVP.

Junior Hoilett

Clubs: Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City

Another long-term Canada international, Junior Hoilett came through the youth ranks at Blackburn Rovers and scored 12 goals in 81 Premier League appearances for the Ewood Park club.

The winger would join QPR in 2012, appearing a further 48 times in the Premier League across a four-year period before a five-season spell at Cardiff City which featured one Premier League season. He is currently a free agent. 

Simeon Jackson

Club: Norwich City

Goals: 4

A Jamaican-born Canadian resident, Simeon Jackson moved to England as a 15-year-old and progressed through the English non-league system, playing for local club Dulwich Hamlet before signing for Rushden & Diamonds and then Gillingham.

Like Brennan, the striker would join Norwich City, where he scored four goals in 35 Premier League appearances across two seasons.

Tomasz Radzinski

No Canadian has made more Premier League appearances or scored more goals than Tomasz Radzinski, the Polish-born forward who was capped 48 times by the Maple Leafs in addition to his 194 appearances in England's top division.

Radzinski, who also won two league titles in Belgium with Anderlecht, scored 25 goals for Everton, becoming a popular figure in his three seasons on Merseyside, while he also contributed some crucial goals in a three-year spell at Fulham.

Paul Stalteri

Clubs: Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham

Capped 84 times by Canada, Paul Stalteri spent the bulk of his professional career in Germany, joining Werder Bremen from Toronto Lynx before moving to England, where he signed for Tottenham Hotspur.

Capable of playing in a number of roles, Stalteri struggled for game time at Spurs, although he did score a memorable winner in a 4-3 victory over London rivals West Ham. He also made 13 appearances on loan at Fulham.

Frank Yallop

Club: Ipswich Town

Goals: 3

Born in Watford, England, Frank Yallop travelled to Canada with his family as a child before returning to his homeland when he joined Ipswich Town, where he would eventually play alongside Forrest.

Yallop was a fixture for the Tractor Boys between 1983 and 1996 and, following the formation of the Premier League in 1992, made 54 appearances for the club.

One of his three goals for Town came in a famous 2-1 win over Manchester United.
