2024 Canadian Grand Prix: Dates, history, drivers & more

The Canadian Grand Prix happens shortly before the halfway point of the Formula 1 season, making it an important race for any team that aspires to be near the top of the standings.

Only Gilles Villeneuve has ever won his home Grand Prix, while the likes of Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have dominated over the years.

Will Max Verstappen extend his lead at the top of the Drivers' Championship standings, or will a driver from the surging McLaren and Ferrari teams reach the checkered flags first?

Hamilton's first success came in 2007, and the former McLaren driver won further titles in 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019.

Canadian Grand Prix track - Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

Named for the only Canadian in F1 history to win his home Grand Prix, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a fast course with plenty of high-speed straights and challenging corners.

It has four chicanes, three DRS zones, one famous hairpin and the first turn, which is also the first of two turns that form the Senna S after the late F1 legend Ayrton Senna, is something close to a hairpin.
