Tajon Buchanan is joining Italian giants Inter Milan, where he will play in the Champions League.
Buchanan joins Inter from Club Brugge in Belgium, where he won the Belgian First Division in 2021/22 after joining in January 2022. The fee is reported to be $7.2 million.
Inter, coached by Simone Inzaghi, play a 3-5-2 formation that will suit Buchanan well. Another attack-minded fullback, Denzel Dumfries, has thrived in that system and was a key part of the club's title-winning campaign two seasons ago and its run to the Champions League final last season.
The 24-year-old Brampton, Ontario native's career started with the New England Revolution, who drafted him out of Syracuse University in 2019.
Buchanan began his career as a winger, scoring eight goals and adding five assists in his final MLS season as the Revs won the Supporters' Shield, but his coaches converted him to wing-back in Belgium.
After making his debut for Canada's senior national team in a 7-0 win over Aruba in June 2021 where he assisted two goals, Buchanan has amassed a total of 35 caps and four goals for his country, scoring against Mexico, El Salvador, and Panama in 2021 and against Jamaica in 2022.
