Trainer Cliff Brown is confident that his stable star The Inferno is back to his best as he prepares the son of Holy Roman Emperor for a tilt at the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphettville on Saturday.
The five-year-old, who won the Group 2 McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley last September and then followed up that performance with a second placing in the Group 1 Moir Stakes at the same track, can be backed at 16/1 to land another elite-level victory on the weekend.
Wet weather halted a trip to Sydney for The Everest (1200m) before The Inferno returned to action in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington in February, a race in which he nearly fell.

Another short break then followed before The Inferno next reappeared in The Discovery at Sale on Good Friday, where he finished seventh, before then heading to Adelaide last week to finish third in the Group 3 D C McKay Stakes at Morphettville, a performance Brown was very happy with.
"He was good," the trainer said. "He had that run at Sale and I said going into it, the one thing he lacked was match practice and he just takes that run.
"He seemed good the other day and he'll improve further, and the 1200 metres suits him better, but he's also taking a step up in grade."
One thing Brown would like is a favourable barrier after The Inferno drew out at Morphettville last time.
"I would like to see him ridden a length or two closer but we couldn't the other day because of where we were drawn," the trainer added. "Barriers kill you."
