After defeating the New York Yankees in the Bronx on Monday, the Toronto Blue Jays were forced to put catcher Danny Jansen on the 10-day Injured List with an oblique injury.
The Blue Jays are 21/20 to repeat the opening match of the series win in New York on Tuesday night. George Springer hit a two-run home run to left field, while Alek Manoah racked up seven strikeouts with just one hit allowed over six innings pitched on his season debut.
Treading with caution
That was the good news. Jansen felt some discomfort in Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers, although it didn't force him to leave that game. He is dealing with a strain that the Blue Jays will treat with caution, having placed him on the 10-day IL from Monday.
Oblique injuries can be one of the more difficult to put a timeline on, but the Blue Jays will be hoping for a speedy recovery as Jansen looked fantastic at the plate in the opening series with two home runs. Jansen was 4-7 in the opening series against the Texas Rangers.

Toronto recalled left-hander Anthony Kay from Triple-A Buffalo and selected the contract of catcher Tyler Heineman from the International League club.
Manoah on the up
Meanwhile, Blue Jays' manager Charlie Montoyo waxed lyrical about Manoah, he said: "He just keeps improving. That's a tough lineup and he was in charge for the whole game.
"Then he lost it a little bit, lost his command, but he didn't panic. That's why he got the job done, because he never panics. You don't teach that, he has it."
