Canadian Football League update: Blue Bombers favored to win Grey Cup midway through season

The CFL began its 2023 regular season back in June, and have now completed 10 of 21 weeks in the regular season.

With the season nearly at the halfway mark, the playoff picture is starting to shape up. 

We've highlighted the individual and team league leaders for all of the major statistics, as well as the current odds for every team to reach or win the Grey Cup.

Current standings and playoff picture

Below are the current standings in the CFL's East and West divisions. The top three teams in each division make the playoffs to compete for the Grey Cup.

Team statistical leaders

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are the most productive offense in terms of yards, averaging 339.7 yards per game. The Toronto Argonauts are second, averaging 366.8 yards per game. 

The Argonauts are the top scorers in the league, averaging 33.5 points per game, while the Blue Bombers are second with a 30.9 average.

The British Columbia Lions have the stingiest defense in the league, allowing league-best averages of 17 points per game and 284 yards per game. The Saskatchewan Roughriders allow the second-fewest yards per game with an average of 307.3, and the Montreal Alouettes allow the second-lowest number of points per game with 19.4. 

Player statistical leaders

Offense

Argonauts quarterback Zach Collaros leads the league with 2,298 passing yards. He also leads the CFL with 16 passing touchdown passes.

Blue Bombers running back Brady Oliveira leads the way with 703 rushing yards. Argonauts running back Chad Kelly has the most rushing touchdowns with five.

Alouettes wide receiver Austin Mack has the most receiving yards with 657, two yards ahead of Blue Bombers receiver Dalton Schoen. Schoen, teammate Nic Demski, Argonauts receiver DaVaris Daniels, and Lions receiver Dominique Rhymes are tied for the league lead with five receiving touchdowns each.

Defense

The current CFL sacks leader is Lions defensive lineman Mathieu Betts, who has 10.0 sacks so far this season. Blue Bombers defensive back Demerio Houston leads the league with six interceptions.

Speical teams

So far this season, Lions kicker Sean Whyte has a 96.2% field goal make percentage, and has made 25/26 field goals this season.
