Pound-for-pound king Alvarez was rumored to be in talks to meet Jermell's twin brother, Jermall, who competes at middleweight.

However, an official announcement was confirmed on 1st July with Alvarez and Charlo both posting on social media using the captain "UNDISPUTED vs UNDISPUTED".
