Boxing: All you need to know about Savannah Marshall v Femke Hermans

Savannah Marshall headlines Saturday night's card from Newcastle and the Hartlepool hitter is in action against Belgian fighter Femke Hermans.

The Silent Assassin is 10/11 to win by stoppage, 10/11 for a decision victory and the fight is 5/6 to go the distance.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the Newcastle showdown.

Where and when is the fight taking place?

The bout will take place on Saturday, April 2nd. The fighters are expected to ring walk at around 10pm and all the action comes from the Utilita Arena in Newcastle.

Where can I watch Marshall v Hermans?

The bout will be shown live on Sky Sports Action in the UK. The broadcaster will also stream the action live on its website and the Sky Go app. Coverage will start at 8pm.

What's on the line?

Marshall defends her WBO middleweight belt, as the Hartlepool hitter bids to make her third successful guarding of the title she won in 2020.

The Silent Assassin's unbeaten professional record is also on the line. There's talk of a unification fight with WBA, WBC and IBF champ Claressa Shields and the crowning of an undisputed middleweight queen.

Clearly, Marshall won't get that opportunity should she fail to come through this test.

What are the records of the fighters?

Marshall was a brilliant amateur performer. The Hartlepool hitter won a silver medal at the 2010 World Championships and followed that with gold in China two years later.

Marshall claimed middleweight gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and she remains the only boxer to have defeated current WBA, WBC and IBF champion Shields.

The Silent Assassin has made a seamless transition to the professional ranks. Marshall is unbeaten in her 11 pro fights, with nine of those coming by stoppage.

The Hartlepool hitter stopped fellow Brit Hannah Rankin, when winning the vacant WBO middleweight title in just her ninth contest.

Marshall has since gone on to stop Maria Lindberg and Lolita Muzeya in two impressive defences of her title.

Hermans is a former WBO super-middleweight world champion. The Belgian banger has won 12 of her 15 professional contests, with five of those dozen victories coming by stoppage.

Hermans has been involved in four world title fights and that includes going the distance with Shields back in 2018.

The 32-year-old won the European middleweight crown when beating Luiza Davydova in 2020. Hermans has been defeated three times, but she has never been stopped in her pro career.

Marshall v Hermans prediction

Marshall is one of the hottest talents in women's boxing and she should prove a class above her rival here.

The Silent Assassin boasts supreme boxing skills and she also carries plenty of punch power. The Hartlepool hitter has only gone the distance twice in her career and one of those bouts was just a four-round contest.

Yes, Hermans has never been stopped, but she has never been in with someone that punches as hard as Marshall.

The Belgian was solid enough to go the distance with Shields, and there is no doubt the Michigan machine is a fantastic talent, but she doesn't have the power of the Silent Assassin.

With talk of a middleweight unification fight on the horizon, there is no doubt that Marshall will want to put on a show on Saturday night.

The Silent Assassin looks likely to overwhelm her outclassed opponent and it would be no surprise if we failed to hear the final bell in Newcastle, so backing Marshall to win by stoppage to set up a mouthwatering mega fight with Shields looks the way to go.
