NBA -US Sports: 2k23 Summer League Day 7 preview

The NBA 2k23 Summer League continues in Vegas on Wednesday and there are seven games to enjoy.

The Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks and LA Clippers are all in action, as are a couple of eye-catchers from the 2022 draft.

What:2022 NBA Summer League, Day 7
Where:Thomas and Mack Center and Cox Pavilion Paradise, near Las Vegas
When:Wednesday 13th July, 2022 from 16:00 to 22:00 (ET)
How to watch:NBA TV

However, arguably the biggest prospect of this year's draft class is already done for the summer. Number one pick Paolo Banchero has already impressed the Orlando Magic enough that he's being stood down for the rest of the tournament.

The Magic won their opening two games thanks to impressive displays from the Duke product, switching their focus to their more unproven talent as they look to build out their roster after losing the likes of Nikola Vucevic, Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon in recent seasons.

While the Magic feel there's little for Banchero to gain in Vegas, there are still plenty of highly-rated prospects set to feature, with two of them meeting in the pick of Day 7's action.

Another test for improving Kings

Sacramento Kings and the Oklahoma City Thunder boast two of the most exciting players from this summer's draft in Keegan Murray and Chet Holmgren, respectively.

Number four pick Murray has lifted the mood around the Kings with some impressive Summer displays. He has been a much-needed boost for a franchise currently enduring the longest run without a playoff appearance in league history.

The Thunder selected Holmgren second in this summer's draft and he's projected to become a cornerstone of their rebuild.

He's joined in Vegas by one of last season's breakout rookies in Josh Giddey.

The Thunder have two more 2022 draft picks on their Summer League roster in Jalen Williams - drafted 12th overall - and second-round pick Jaylin Williams.

There's a lot of promising talent in Oklahoma now, while they have one of the deepest rosters at this event.

Holmgren is the +375 second-favourite to be next season's Rookie of the Year, while Murray is a +850 outsider.

Off-court distractions for perfect Jazz

The Utah Jazz are the only side with a perfect record still intact after winning both of their games so far. However, they are seen as outsiders in Wednesday's meeting with the Toronto Raptors.

The Jazz face an uncertain future having traded star center Rudy Gobert to Minnesota and now rumours are swirling around guard Donovan Mitchell.

NBA insiders reported on Wednesday that the team are listening to trade offers for the All-Star, with the New York Knicks expected to push hard for him this summer.

Elsewhere, potential Mitchell suitors, the Miami Heat, face off with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers are one of just three sides to have lost all of their Summer League games so far, but they can be backed at -145 on the Money Line to turn that around.

Hornets out to build on thrilling win

The Charlotte Hornets are back in action against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, fresh from a dramatic win over the LA Lakers.

The Hornets won in sudden-death double overtime against the Lakers to pick up their first win at Summer League. However, they face a talented Cleveland side who are making their mark in Vegas.

While all eyes have been on 14th pick Ochai Agbaji, it's fellow guard RJ Nembhard who is taking the plaudits. Nembhard went undrafted last year before joining the Cavs and this summer has seen him make his mark.

He posted another 19 points in the loss to the Nuggets in their previous game, having scored 20 in their Summer League opener. The 23-year-old will be hoping for another strong night against a Hornets side who have a reputation for being a little too open.

Another injury blow for Pelicans

Despite picking up a win over the Atlanta Hawks in their last game, the New Orleans Pelicans have to pick themselves up ahead of their next meeting with the Washington Wizards.

The Pelicans suffered their second Summer League injury in their latest game, with rookie E.J. Liddell tearing his ACL against the Hawks. They also lost eighth pick Dyson Daniels to injury at the weekend.

As for the Wizards, they bounced back from defeat in their opener to see off the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. They benefitted from a sluggish Suns display, while the Wizards are still waiting on 10th pick Johnny Davis to hit his stride after two underwhelming displays.

Facing the injury-hit Pelicans could help Davis and the Wizards turn things around, but they're +100 on the Money Line with the Pels the -120 favourites.

Elsewhere, the Minnesota Timberwolves face-off with the Milwaukee Bucks, while the Denver Nuggets take on the LA Clippers.
