Joel Edmundson heads to Toronto

The Washington Capitals traded Joel Edmundson to the Toronto Maple Leafs in return for a 2024 third-round pick that is originally from the New York Islanders, and a 2025 fifth-round pick originally from the Chicago Blackhawks.

A left-shooting defenceman, the 30-year-old Edmundson will provide competent depth for a Leafs team that hasn't been known for its defence in years. He spent 16:26 on the ice per game with Washington, collecting six points in 44 games.

Oilers add Troy Stecher

The Edmonton Oilers have been busy before the trade deadline as they look to improve the roster ahead of what they hope will be a Stanley Cup run. In Troy Stecher, they get a solid yet unspectacular player who had a +5 plus/minus over 47 games for an Arizona Coyotes team that had a -24 goal differential at the time of the trade.

Stecher has only five points this season, but he should provide depth as a righty defenceman behind Evan Bouchard and Vincent Desharnais, who have both improved this season. The Coyotes' return in the deal is not yet known.

Golden Knights bolster defence with Hanifin deal

The Vegas Golden Knights improved their defence with a trade for Calgary Flames defenceman Noah Hanifin. So far this season, Hanifin has 35 points split between 11 goals and 24 assists. He spent more than 23 minutes on the ice per game before the trade and had the second-most point shares (6.5) and most defensive point shares (3.8) on the Flames before the trade.

In return, Calgary gets Daniil Miromanov and conditional draft picks. The Flames retained half of Hanifin's salary, and the Philadelphia Flyers got a fifth-round pick from Vegas to take 25 percent of his salary, meaning Vegas has $3 million in cap space it can use before the deadline.

Avs, Sabres swap Byram, Mittelstadt

The Colorado Avalanche have sent 22-year-old defenceman Bowen Byram to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for 25-year-old centre Casey Mittelstadt. A trade between two top-10 draft picks, the Avs get a big addition to their top six while Buffalo gets another lefty defenceman to take the pressure off Rasmus Dahlin.

This season, Mittelstadt has 47 points split between 14 goals and 33 assists in 62 games, and he led Buffalo in points and assists at the time of the trade. Byram has eight goals and 12 assists in 55 games.

Avalanche acquire Sean Walker from the Flyers

The Colorado Avalanche acquired defenceman Sean Walker and a 2026 fifth-round draft pick from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Ryan Johansen and a first-round pick in 2025.

Walker has 22 points this season and logged just under 20 minutes of ice time per game for the Flyers ahead of the trade. He was sixth on the team in hits with 86, fourth in blocks with 98, and tied for first in defensive point shares with 3.7. Johansen, a veteran forward, joins the Flyers with 23 points in 63 games in 2023/24.

Oilers acquire Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick

The Edmonton Oilers' forward group has gotten even deeper as the team sent its 2024 first-round pick to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick, as well as a future seventh-round pick.

This season, the 34-year-old Henrique has posted 18 goals and 24 assists in 60 games and was the third-leading points scorer for the Ducks before the trade. Carrick had eight goals and three assists in 60 games before the trade. Henrique was usually on Anaheim's first line while Carrick was on the third, and they got 17:35 and 12:37 ice time with the Ducks, respectively.

Panthers trade for Vladimir Tarasenko

The Atlantic Division-leading Florida Panthers bolstered their roster ahead of the March 8 trade deadline by sending two draft picks to the Ottawa Senators for winger Vladimir Tarasenko. Half his $5 million salary will be retained by Ottawa, and his contract expires after the season.

Tarasenko has 17 goals and 24 assists in 57 games this season, and he was Ottawa's fifth-leading points scorer and third-leading goalscorer at the time of the trade. The draft picks sent to Ottawa are a 2025 third-round pick and a conditional 2024 fourth-rounder that would become a 2026 third-round pick if the Panthers win the Stanley Cup.

Golden Knights get Anthony Mantha from the Capitals

The Vegas Golden Knights added some goalscoring talent to the team's forward group by acquiring right-winger Anthony Mantha from the Washington Captials. Mantha has 20 goals and 14 assists this season, the second-most goals on the team at the time of the trade.

In return, Washington receives a 2024 second-round draft pick and a 2026 fourth-round draft pick.

Stars acquire Chris Tanev from Flames

The Dallas Stars traded for defenceman and Calgary Flames alternate captain Chris Tanev, sending Artem Grushnikov, a 2024 second-round pick, and a conditional 2026 third-round pick to Calgary in return.

Tanev, in his 14th NHL season, averaged 19:50 time on ice per game and posted 3.4 defensive point shares for Calgary. He blocks the third-most shots in the NHL per 60 minutes and he has a +16 plus/minus rating.

Jets trade for Sean Monahan

The Winnipeg Jets have established themselves as one of the Western Conference's premier teams, and they boosted their status by trading for Sean Monahan on February 2. Monahan has 35 points in 49 games with the Montreal Canadiens this season.

Winnipeg sent a 2024 first-round draft pick and a conditional 2027 third-round pick to Montreal in return for Monahan. Monahan is 29 years old and has scored more than 30 goals in a season three times. 

Monahan has 13 goals so far this season, including three game-winners. Monahan had been a second-line centre for the Canadiens and was part of their first power play unit while averaging 18:27 of ice time per game.

Canucks acquire Elias Lindholm from Calgary

Elias Lindholm, a 29-year-old center on an expiring contract who had been designated as the Calgary Flames All-Star representative, has been traded from Calgary to the Vancouver Canucks. Lindholm will provide a boost to the 'Nucks, who have the most points in the NHL.

So far this season, Lindholm has nine goals and 23 assists in 49 games. In return, the Flames acquired Andrei Kuzmenko, Hunter Brzustewicz, Joni Jurmo, a 2024 first-round draft pick, and a 2024 conditional fourth-round draft pick.

Kuzmenko, a 27-year-old forward, has 47 goals and 48 assists in 124 career games. Brzustewicz and Jurmo are both prospects who have not made their NHL debuts yet.

Flyers trade Gauthier to Ducks

The Philadelphia Flyers surprised the entire hockey landscape when they traded top prospect Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks for defenceman Jamie Drysdale and a second-round pick in the 2025 draft.

Reports emerged after the trade that Gauthier, who is the third-leading scorer for Boston College's men's hockey team this season, did not want to play for the Flyers. Gauthier was also the joint-top points scorer at the 2024 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, which he helped the United States win.

After playing in just eight games last season due to injury, the 21-year-old Drysdale has slotted in as a first-line defenceman in Philly, also playing on the top power play unit.

Kraken get Tatar from Avs

The Seattle Kraken acquired veteran forward Tomas Tatar from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft.

Tatar has scored more than 20 goals in seven of his 13 NHL seasons, most recently doing so for the New Jersey Devils last campaign.

St. Louis Blues trade Bortuzzo to Islanders

The New York Islanders got an experienced defenceman with a Stanley Cup on his resume when the team sent a 2024 seventh-round pick to the St. Louis Blues for Robert Bortuzzo. Bortuzzo has played 13 seasons in the NHL and has five seasons with over 100 hits.

Eric Robinson dealt from Columbus to Buffalo

Eric Robinson, a winger who began his career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, was traded to the Buffalo Sabres after seven years in Ohio. Robinson had 27 points split between 10 goals and 17 assists in his most productive season, 2021/22.

Canucks get Zadorov from Flames

The Vancouver Canucks acquired veteran defenceman Nikita Zadorov from the Calgary Flames to add a bit of depth. Zadorov, now 28 years old, began his career with the Buffalo Sabres before stints with the Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks, and Flames. The Canucks gave up a 2026 third-round pick and a 2024 fifth-round pick.

Blackhawks acquire Beauvillier from Canucks

The rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks got some experience when trading for Anthony Beauvillier. The 'Hawks gave up a 2024 fifth-round pick for a player that slotted into the team's top-nine forward spots before sustaining an upper-body injury that landed him on injured reserve after 15 games with his new team.

Islanders, Devils swap Durandeau for Thompson

The New York Islanders acquired forward Tyce Thompson from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for 25-year-old forward Arnaud Durandeau. Neither player has seen NHL action, and they each still have rookie eligibility. Thompson, 24, is the brother of Buffalo Sabres star Tage Thompson.

Veteran defenceman Zach Bogosian was traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Minnesota Wild. Bogosian, 33 years old, was drafted in 2008 and he has seven seasons with over 100 hits and three seasons with over 100 blocks under his belt.
